Leather Care

I hate when leather seats crack and show wear. That being said, I've never done anything to prevent this from happening. We got a new E class in January and I can tell that without proper care the seats will show a lot of wear (the leather is very soft). My question is what products do I need to put on the seats to keep them looking new? Thanks!

You need a seperate leather cleaner and a conditioner. As far as cleaning the leather goes, I'm a huge fan of Autoglym Interior Shampoo. Don't let the name fool you; it's not really a shampoo. It's a spray that cleans the leather, vinyl, carpets, etc. You then follow it up with a quality leather conditioner like Zymol Treat or Einszett Leather Care. A tip: make sure your leather is body temp, warm not too hot, when applying the conditioner. This way the pores are open and it absorbs the conditioner better. Hope this helps.

How often do you treat the leather?

It all depends on the traffic. If a daily driver, I'd clean and treat every month. If a weekender, clean every three months, and condition every other month. Now if no one sits in the back or passenger seats, then treat every other month.

What do you think of the Griot's Garage leather wipes? I only ask because I have them already in my garage...I have had pretty good results but on such an expensive car I want to ensure I am doing the right thing.

Phil doesn't seem to love the griot's stuff and he's the man...but another opinion is always great.

Griot's makes some good stuff. It's a step up form the Meguiar's and Mothers line. I like thier wheel polish, they make good clay, their da is nice, etc. Richard has got an excellent business model and I commend him on that. Griot's is very convenient and you get pretty decent products if your car is already in good-great shape. For the pro-sumer market, there's much better stuff. Use your griot's wipes on the daily driver and use the einszett or zymol for the p-cars. When you're done with the wipes, you can use the better products on the daily driver. You'll find with better products you don't apply as often.

Thanks for the help. Any idea where I can pick up or possibly order Zymol or Einszett?
