I've seen the F40 in person at the PCA autocross and not good for this type of event. maybe it was the driver but the Porsche and Minis 2x faster runs.
I've only seen the GT in action at the Monaco Grand Prix and it had after market exhaust...

Between the two cars, I trust my life on the Carrera GT because of the handling.

Not totally understanding you, but you do realize not everyone at a track day pushes their car to the limit.

Someone driving a 20K Mini will be more inclined to push it to the limit then the owner of a 600K F40. Not to mention that the F40 takes a good driver to extract it's full potential.

It's a little unfair to compare the two cars since the F40 was built in the late 80s and the CGT 4 years ago.

///M Kevin - Unfair comparison is true. Also, the CGT has a reputation for biting back hard if when pushed to the edge. So new tech in the CGT or old tech in the F40, both require paying a lot of attention as you approach the edge of their respective envelopes.

I said autocross event not track. I agree you need to be a good driver to drive raw race car like the F40.

I'm really interested in driving experience between the two legendary marks.

Wow,that`s a real supercar for real men..nice!

I can`t tell why,but this is the only car I would be a bit scared to drive...or at least which would make me feel nervous and excited if I think of driving it.

Not the case with the CGT or another modern supercar though ...

maybe, because it`s so pure...but I like this kind of thrill

congrats the f40 is one of my favorite ferraris of all time. definitely the one i'd take for the most raw and exciting driving experience. is it true they really dyno over 500hp stock at the wheels? i've never heard that before and i know ferrari published the crank hp at around 478 or something

I heard from people who have been very involved in the F40 community for many years that the ECU and other changes Ferrari had to make for the 211 USA-specific versions of the F40 that were manufactured gave them an opportunity to increase power a bit - we all know how turbocharged engines respond to different engine maps.

So I know nothing as fact other than having heard that the USA cars dyno'd in the 520hp range. Also, that would likely be crank hp, not wheel hp.

Either way, anything in that range of hp and 450 lb ft of torque in a car weighing 1100-1200 kg (say around 2,500 to 2700 pounds) is going to have a decent power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratio.

It is "rumored" that Ferrari added a few more ponies to the USA spec cars to offset the weight difference. A Euro spec one weighs about 2700 pounds. The USA spec one weighs almost 3000 pounds. Both full of fluids etc....to bad we will never see a 2700 pound supercar again.
