Keep my white GT3 or go for the white Audi R8?
If it weren't for those louvers (so 70s) in the front and rear and that stupid contrasting side blade, I'd be tempted to go for the R8. But that's not how it is is it? But even then, I'd be afraid that the R8 will loose it's "Look Ma! New model" factor after a few months.
The side view of the R8 looks like one of them caricature fish...you know, the small nose that's not in proportion with the body.

GT3 without a doubt! drive both and I think you will agree....I have not driven the R8 but from all the tests I have seen of both I think if you are looking for purely a sports car the GT3 wins hands down....
I've seen several R8's. They are stunning in person. I currently drive an RS4 (same engine as the R8). It is a fantastic car, especially for a daily driver. Exceptional speed, handling, looks, and comfort. With that being said, I should be getting my GT3 next week. It will be my weekend toy. For your needs, GT3 all the way!!! An R8 can not compare to a rear wheel, light weight beast of a sports car.

My guess is that the R8 is "new" and different, and that is what most likely appeals to you. I went through this with the Acura NSX in 1991 (I know I am an old SOB). My point is that Acura came out with a "molded" new model and I bit the bait. Audi is not far from this. They are decades behind what Porsche, and specifically the GT3 has acomplished with respect to a "drivers" car. It is currently the purist form of a true sports car available for the street today. If you don't want to feel the road, there are less expensive alternatives than an R8. Just my .02...good luck with your pursuit!

(great song by the way)

their lap times were quite interesting...
Lap Times
Car/ Lap / Peak MPH
1. Porsche Carrera GT 1:19.70 120.5
2. Caterham CSR 260 1:21.00 112.8
3. McLaren F1 1:21.20 120.2
4. Ferrari Enzo 1:21.30 120.9
5. Audi R8 1:22.10 113.7
6. Koenigsegg CCX 1:22.30 120.0
7. Lamborghini Gallardo '06 1:22.80 116.9
8. Mosler MT900 1:23.00 115.7
9. Ascari KZ1 1:23.20 117.8
10. Porsche GT3 (997) 1:23.40 114.4
"But, in the end, purity of purpose and breadth of ability win the day, and no car here – probably none under £100K – expresses the fusion more perfectly than the R8. There are faster supercars, but we can’t think of another currently in production that takes a demanding road apart with quite the surgical precision and cool-browed composure of Audi’s incandescently rapid and hugely desirable R8.
So here’s the answer. It’s one we sometimes doubted we’d ever witness, but, for the good of the supercar’s evolution, it could hardly be better. Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today."
regardless...i wouldn't get a "regular" R8, if you really want one wait for the RS8.
Aaaaahhhh, the old "bait and switch":
The thing is, every performance-orientated Audi since the original Quattro (with the arguable exception of the RS4) has done just that, but you don’t have to read between the lines of Richard Meaden’s dispatch from the R8’s international launch in Las Vegas (evo 102) to know that it’s far more than a ‘poor man’s Lamborghini Gallardo’ or to rate its chances against any version of the 911 this side of a GT3 as better than even.
And what the R8 is compared to in the end:
But the longer I drive it, the more I’m convinced that the 911 Carrera 4S (here equipped with the factory-fitted Power Kit that hikes peak power by 25bhp to 375bhp and liberates still more raucous decibels from the quad exhaust pipes) will give the R8 the biggest fright, even if you discount the fact that it’s also comfortably the least expensive car here, costing £71,980 basic if you forego those rather pricey (£8241) additional 25 horses.
This is quoted directly from your article, I don't think that they compared a GT3 with the R8. The GT3 was only mentioned at the beginning of the article and suprisingly the 911 C4S lap time wasn't there (I think they mis-spoke).
My vote is still for the GT3 hands down.
