Autocross w/ 997GT3?

Has anyone here try autocross w/ the 997GT3? Any advice on how to not embarrass myself. I do have a fear of cones.

Have you done any autocrosses in a 911 before? Don't fear the cones. They are more afraid of you than you are of them.

I tried it once w/ my GT2 and I did horrible. I was paying too much attention to the cones and keep hitting the rev limiter.

Walk the course. Walk the course again. Make sure tire pressures are good. Run it slow your 1st time out. Keep the TC and PSM on. Drive slow enough to have full control of your car and not hit any cones at the same time. Speed up a bit more every time while keeping that last sentence in mind. Walk the course during lunch. Keep in mind that you will not be winning this auto X and should only concern yourself with improving your times.

Just went to one with user "Mercedesbenz" There were 3 white 997 GT3's at PCA's autocross this past Sunday.
Another piece of advice is always be looking down the track at your 2nd upcoming turn. Dont let your eyes get fixated on the turn you are about to make.

The 2nd gear on this car is pretty tall. I am thinking about staying in 2nd gear and see how it goes.

Unless it's a longer more open course, you should not need to use 3rd and up.

What about trail braking with your left foot.

I would focus on breaking with your right foot. Save the fancy footwork for later. Have fun and post up a review on how it went!

I see 997 GT3s at my autocross all the time. The one complaint Ive heard from all of them is that the Pilot Sport Cups really cant get up to temp on an auto cross course.

There is a guy that autox's his GT3 at the PCA Metro NY autcross and he does great.I Drive a 06 997 and this is my first season and what really helped me was a class that the PCA runs for Porsche memembers only. Also this weekend I had my best run. What I did is check my tire pressure after every run. It kept on going up so I lowered it every time back down to 38 in the rear and 34 in the front it stuck great and I didn't have my TC on.To bad the season is almost over.

I autocrossed today in a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera with the E-gear and my biggest problem was remembering to keep my eyes UP! I agree with all the other sentiments on here in addition to keeping your eyes up! Look ahead in the course and take your time too. Too often, people will feel the need to go faster than they're capable of. I've learned the hard way that's not something you should be doing. Your GT3 is an awesome machine for autocrossing/tracking. Just take your time in getting comfortable with the course before really pushing it. Gradual baby steps is the key.

Yeah, i went to my first autocross this weekend with ShawnC. I had fun, its really amazing to feel how well the car handles. At first i was nice and slow and careful, but at the end i started to get over confidient and did much worse and hit 2 cones. One pretty bad, it unclipped the front lip and scuffed it up and dragged the cone under the car a while. I'd like to do it again soon.
