18" or 19" wheels for the track

I know this has been discussed before but it's hard to find the posts...

I currently use my stock 19" wheels and MPSC's for the track on my 997S and am thinking of putting some PS2's on my stock wheels for the street and getting a new set of wheels for the track. I was going to get some 18" CCW's but from what I have heard, some of the tire manufacturers are switching focus to 19" tires and discontinuing some of the 18" sizes that I would use.... I drive to the track and can't use slicks so I am talking about R-Comps, probably MPSC's or R888's.... Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also, I may trade up to a GT3 at some point and it would be nice if I can use the same wheels on the GT3 if I get one...

tires for 18s are less expensive and I believe that the cup cars run 18s...

I do not think the 18 inch R compunds are going anywhere... if anything they will simply increase 19 inch availability...

18s for the GT3. The 997 GT3 has a push on the track with the 19s. Everyone worked on it for a long time until everyone found out it can go neutral with 18s. Not to mention track tires are ALOT cheaper. 18s and lower the car.

I used 19" in the rs and now Racing BBS 18" with Michelin slick tires and you can really feel the difference.
18" for track !

If you're good enough to make use of the tires then go 18s all the way....

I have a different take on this debate. The cost for 18 vs 19' tires is not that significant. my size R888 in 18 is not that much less maybe $10.00 a tire approximately. If you try to match the diameter of the 19 inch tire with an 18 inch tire you can run a wider tire with a higher profile. I think the 3 was designed to run with the lower profile 19 inch tire. and I am not sure we can tell the difference unless the changes you make are much more that just rim size. if you change tire diameter then you are changing two factors.
That said, what is true today is that you have more tire choices in 18. in 19 you can run, R6, R888, corsas and sport cups. in a R compound that is it. in 18 you can run the Nitto and other combos to give yourself more flexibility.

Frank, I agree with you. I ran 18" wheels first, struggled to find a set of tires that worked for the 997. I had no problem finding 996 sizing, but the proper sizes for a 997 in 18" were impossible to find. I am now running 19" MPSC, and love the feel of the wheels/tires.

Where can you buy the R888 for 19" wheels? I have been unable to find them anywhere. Appreciate your help.

The fikse wheels from the link below are forsale with the Hoosier R6s. The tires still have at least another couple of track days left. The wheels are very light, like new and only been used for 3 DEs. Also fit over PCCBs!
