help with 997 GT3 purchase

I am looking into purchasing a 2007 GT3 via the internet so it will probably be sight unseen as it would be over a 2k drive home. Am I nuts in trusting someone I do not know to inspect the car? What is the best way to handle the transaction money-wise. Seller seems reasonable. What will happen to prices of these cars when new GT3 is available? I assume they will fall but by how much? The car I am looking at is on its 2nd owner-do you see this as significantly devaluing the car. FYI its current owner bought it with CPO which I was told could be transferred. Finally, I have a long torso but am only 6" 1' tall, the car I am looking at has a sunroof which is frequently been a problem for me. I have an 03 e46 M3 without a sunroof and I am fine. Only exception is track days when helmet touches the side of the headliner. Would sitting in any 997 911 with sunroof be the same re: headroom? Sorry for long post, many thanks.

I'm 6'5" and I have enough head room without a helmet. With a helmet my head was really jammed into the roof. I put the GT3 seats in and the lower BK mounts and that just barely works. Hope that helps.

What's MSRP on the car, and what are you offering? The CPO should be transferable and is nice to have. I think the value of the cars will go down slightly when the new GT3 is actually available, but that won't be until the end of summer. Obviously, I don't see the cars appreciating, so good luck trying to time your purchase; better to enjoy it now and through the summer assuming you have the money. I don't think the cabin height will be a problem for you.

I just sold my 997 GT3 yesterday but regarding your concerns.
First I could never make a large expenditure without physically seeing and driving the car. Second, how many miles are on the car? Third, how does the paint look like? Dings, chips and scratches? How is the interior? These leather seats show wear very easily, especially the side bolster areas.
Does it have fresh tires? How is the condition of the wheels (curbing, scuffs ...)

Personally I would not make a move until I filled in the blanks a little better.

It is your hard earned money.

Good luck

re GT3 purchase

Thanks for the info-it really helps. Car has about 9k with protectant clear bra on entire front end-apparently it is in mint condition and has not been tracked by 2nd owner(he purchased car with 2k mi). I am sure it has seen some spirited driving but hey these things have to be made for that. I was told other than 50% on rear tires car is pretty great shape. Nonetheless I would have a ppi done prior to purchase plus carfax etc. How to best handle transaction to protect both parties??

I thought all US GT3's came with the sport seats. Did you change to a different seat? How much did the bracket lower the seat and can it be used with heated adaptive sport seats? Thanks

Why not have someone local to the car check it out for you?

I purchased my 997S over the internet. Bought it from an exotic car dealer and had a PPI by an independent agent. All that said, I still felt obliged to use some frequent flyer miles and check it out myself and take it for a short drive after the PPI came back positive. As someone notes, it's a lot of cash. The airline ticket price is very modest in the context of the scale of the purchase. And you'll likely be kicking yourself if something that you could have spotted goes awry.
The CPO is a nice add. Mine didn't have it. And I did run in to a problem, under warranty, that neither the PPI nor I caught. Don't know if the dealer knew about it either. It was intermittent and very hard to track down, but ultimately was resolved by my excellent local dealer.
The third owner thing would have me a little weirded out, but I can't exactly say why.
Is there any chance that someone on this forum could take a look at in on your behalf?
Oh, and GL.

Congratulation on selling your 3. Is the lucky owner local to you?
