Question Short shift kit for GT3/RS?

OK, just did an extensive search and could not find any specific feedback on short shift linkage modification and impression for 997 GT3/RS. There were alot of post on the subject on other 911. I am looking at either B&M vs Schnell. So far all the reviews favor B&M since they make the Porsche OEM short shift kit

Anyone out there gone this route with their 7 GT3/RS? Impression?

B&M

Schnell

Mike,
I had the B&M SSK on my '04 GT3 and liked it. In addition also had the EVO shift link. It shortened the throw by about 1/3 however, the compromise is what some describe as a "notchier" feel. It does add precision and make shift feel "tighter", taking out some of the slop. You must be more careful and precise when shifting more agressively both up and down between 2 to 3 and 4 to 5.
Since this was my experience from a '04 996 GT3, I would advise that you cross check if the B&M SSK kit is the same part number for both the 997 GT3 and 996 GT3. What I can say is the factory shifter on the 997.1 GT3RS has a better feel and shorter shift than the factory shifter on the 996 GT3.
On the track with the B&M SSK, from the professional instructors who drove my 6GT3, one loved it, the other did not prefer it. "The notchiness" at the track somewhat takes away from the "feel" of a shift. On the street this is not as evident.
Hope this helps.
D.

Am I crazy, I thought all of the 07 and 08 997 MK1 GT3's all had the Porsche SSK....is this not the case?

Regarding the B&M SSK - I installed it on my 1999 996 and loved it. But to the point above it does make the shifter slightly more notchy but a lot less throw compared to a stock 996 shifter which was garbage.

If you want more precision on your shifts then get cup car shift gear cables installed. I think the GT3 shifting is short already.

Previous owner installed on my gt3 and it literally sounds like a gun being loaded on every shift andit is very precise and sweet although it is notchy.

I dropped the 997 OEM short shift kit in after considering the B&M. It's a nice easy swap of the entire "module" instead of ripping bushings and lever out of OEM housing. A few screws and disconnection of cables and it drops right in. Hard to imagine the B&M feeling better either.

So it sounds like 7 GT3 already has the B&M short shift linkage?? Looks like alot of you like the Cup car linkage. I may have to look into that option to tighten things up

Mike,
Compared to PJ's 6GT3 w/Cup cables vs. my 6GT3 w/B&M SSK and Evo shift link. I preferred the Cup cables.

I just installed a B&M SSK in my 997 GT2. I wore out the OEM Shifter in DE schools. The B&M is much better than the stock shifter. The shifts are shorter and more accurate. A round $500 for shifter and install.

Interesting. Does GT2 have different OEM shifter compare with GT3/RS?

No. Same B&M SSK fits all 997's.

The difference between OEM and B&M is truly night and day.

The install for a B&M SSK in my 996 was pretty easy.
It does take precision to keep the cables in a fixed position to reinstall and keep the shifting smooth and precise, otherwise it is not a great experience.

It was however a shorter height shifter compared to the oem. My question would be this for the GT3 folks that have swapped out to a B&M. Can you use the OEM Alcantara shift boot and **** with a B&M shifter? Or will the shift boot be bunched up ?

Again I will ask, Doesn't a 07/08 GT3/GT3RS come standard with the Porsche 997 SSK? or was this a option?
