CGT Won't Start

CGT Starting Problems:

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with hard starting of their CGT. For a while now when I go to start my CGT it fires immediately put won't stay running. It runs for maybe 1.5 sesonds and stalls. I have been lucky to get it started in the past by trying to start it 5 - 6 times. Yesterday I couldn't get it started at all and I was working in the shop when I heard both the transmission and air conditioning fans come on. The car was never running and the key was out of the ignition. I inserted the key into the ignition and switched on and the fans stop running. Does anyone have a clue??

It needs to be driven on a daily basis!! You will find it starts everytime, if you don't have the time I will pay the shipping coast to my house and do the dirty work for you.

Ratatouille?

Hate to say, but you may have some furry visitors in there - the electrical issues you mention can be a sign. Look for footprints on the wheels, that's their staircase into the car.

Also possible one of the DME's is going haywire but that's a stretch. I'd say it's time to get it to a CGT-savvy dealer and tell your insurance agent to brace himself. If it's Ratso, it's a comprehensive claim. And it won't be cheap.

Good luck!

honeybee374,

I thought the very same thing. No signs of critters to date.

I drove to the dealers today and the only way it started was after the fans fired up after trying to start a dozen times. Once it starts everything is fine. Crazy

I'll let you know what they find.

Thanks. Hopefully it is something simple. In most of my experiences in these matters it usually is. Computers! What would we do without em??

Problem Solved

The mystery has been solved.

As it turns out the problem was a faulty relay powering up the "slave" dme. All the wiring from the dme's to the chassis connectors all checked out clean and when he swapped out the two relays powering the dme units the fault codes came from the "master" in lieu of the "slave" previous. Replaced the relay and all is back to normal.

Considering the symptoms the fix was rather painless. It pays to go to high quality techincal people with the right tools.

new battery. It happened to a friend's. If I remember correctly, he told me that the battery's behind one of the front tires. Gotta have it checked by a dealer

Good to hear!

Glad to hear it was something simple and not rodent-related - thanks for the follow-up, have to store that one in the memory bank!
