Sebring ALMS 2011

I was in Florida last weekend and went to the Sebring ALMS race. I posted a few picts to my photo album here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...p?albumid=4611

The racing was amazing. With the 3 categories racing at the same time, there was constant passing going on...had to be the best racing I have ever seen.

If anyone from Sebring is listening...here goes the bad! They didn't have any loud speakers letting you know what was going on unless you were in the main grandstands. What was worse was that there were no video feeds of the leaders, pits or incidents (not that I want to see any...just would like to know why racing stops or slows).

The drivers, teams and corse workers did an AMAZING job. The racing action was non-stop!! Sebring...you failed to perform...you need to support the racers and the thousands of spectators that paid $70 a ticket to watch. Don't allow this race to get bad publicity because the racers, the teams and the corse workers don't deserve it. Spend a few bucks and give the spectators what they ask for...what they need to enjoy that amazing race.

I listened to the race @ the track on the local AM radio channel. They also had signs up that the live tv feed was being broadcast on a local channel (17 I believe). I do think ALMS dropped the ball on the live national TV coverage. ESPN3 on the internet???? Dumb, especially when the interent @ the track doesn't work.

I thought this article was pretty spot on

I have to agree with you. ALMS is very proud of their new broadcast package with the multiple formats and tons of broadcast time but it's really not working for me. Sucks.

Last year I could record, rewind and save to my DVR all the races, had excellent coverage and no worries about missing any action. This year? I need to have the approved ISP for EPSN3.com to work, if I'm stuck on a slow network (I know that's not ALMS' fault) streaming is useless and EXTREMELY frustrating. And, honestly, as nifty as streaming is, any computer I have pales in comparison to blasting my TV setup at volume and full HD. That's a great substitute for not being at the race! Not a small computer screen. ABC's coverage is a 90 minute summary of a 12 hour event? I want it all! Not to mention that when I did DVR the ABC broadcast, DirecTV said "ALMS Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring" but ABC gave me tennis. Tennis?! Meh...

This weekend was a huge fail. Give me SpeedTV back, please.

Oh, and to the OP, funny thing is I was wishing I was at Sebring in person so I could actually watch the race! Too bad the track didn't make your time there more enjoyable. And, absolutely for me, ALMS racing is hands down the most exciting racing I know of. Can't get enough of it! Can't wait until September when they come to Laguna Seca. Always a blast!

The parking issue at the track is a problem. You are sold a "general Parking" permit, but it is over sold. The Sheriff towed off lots of cars who were left to try and create a spot. Mine was the next to be towed, when I went to get something out of it. It looked like a legit spot at the time of parking. Turns out, 4 rows inside of mine was a blue barrel that denotes end of row, I was lucky. The guy beside me with 3 small kids was not. Towed his car away. Who knows what he had to do to leave what day?
The race, awesome!

I agree on the national TV coverage. It's a shame.

OP if you think Sebring has good racing check out Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta! Tons of hills and cambered corners. Much more exciting than Sebring. Sebring is WAY TOO FLAT!

i couldn't agree more regarding ALMS's highly touted ABC/ESPN tv coverage contract for the next three years. if sebring was any indication of what we fans can expect, they will lose alot of fans. when speedtv covered alms they would show all 12 hours that we could watch and enjoy. seeing how the race evolves was always great theater. now with the new contract, not a single minute was televised, not one.
as for espn3, who cares. streaming video over a tiny screen with it herky-jerky video is worthless.
if alms cares about getting their product out there to the fans as well as developing new fans, they should cancel their new contract and beg speedtv to come back to cover their events as in the past. hopefully they have an out with abc/espn as the touted 90 minute dayafter recap promised, never happened. TENNIS ANYONE????????
in prior years when abc covered a very few alms races, i was never happy with their coverage or commentators vs speedtv. now that appears to be all we have to look forward to, or TENNIS!!!!

does anyone know an e-mail address that i could write to at alms to lodge a complaint?

alan

give me speedtv

That's what I was wondering, too. I looked throughout www.americanlemans.com but didn't find anything. Not very 'for the fans', as Dr. Atherton was wont to say...

Ugh...

/end rant

The coverage on ABC was pathetic. I was able to watch the replay on TV but had to feed ESPN 3 to my Playstation 3 using PlayOn. This was actually better coverage than Speed Channel since you lose much of the commercials.

PlayOn will also feed the video for other stuff and will even feed it to iPhones and Android devices.
