Cup Cables - Sequential Shifter.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a sequential shifter for my 2011 RS, but after I looked into the cost 7k, wear and tear and the fact that I do use my car on the street often I have decided against it. In and early thread I started some reply mentioned it but did not elaborate. What are cup cables? What do they differently from what is stock? How much do they cost? Where can I get the installed in South Florida? From what I read the come from 996 Cup cars and are retrofitted to the 997 - is that right? Is that the only way? Anyhow any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Big Al. Putting cup car shifter cables is not very complicated and your locale mechanic can do it. The 996 cup car cable are definitely bigger in physical size, it may improve the shifting from 2nd to 3rd but I can not confirm it, all tough people claim that it does help.

I have the sequential shifter and drive my car mainly on the street. I recommend it. You can get them for much less than the factory advertised 7K as well.

Where can I get it for less than 7k? I actually know someone selling is slightly used one for 5k. Still a little steap for a nondedicated track car. I'd consider it for about 3500.

I have them on my RS.1 (I actually have 996 GT3RS (the race version) cables). You're welcome to try them at any time, but I really don't think they are a big deal. If you drive smoothly and don't jam your gears, I don't really see the benefit, and they do transfer more noise into the cabin.

You just have to look around to some different shops to get a deal. The set I bought was slightly used. It had been installed for one race and then removed to sell the car. If you try to buy them directly from SQS, they are going to charge their full suggested retail price. There is a long detailed thread here on 6speed all about the sequential shifter and options.

We have outfitted several cars 997.2 with the cables and shifter.

Cables alone are not the fix.

If you need the parts we sell them as a kit.

Let me know.
