GT3 - Willow Springs Lap Times?

Was discussing with a buddy and we were trying to find out what a stock or lightly modded GT3 runs at Willow Springs / Big Willlow. Any SoCal track guys have or know some lap times?

Only time I know is off fastest laps by Steve Millen (1:33) but the car is capable of much more I believe.

If you share or know please also include the tires and other mods if possible

I think that's fairly accurate based on what I see at that track. There are so many variables to consider, mostly driver experience at "that" track, ability and skill, track temps, set up, etc. It does not necessarily take a lot of HP to go fast. The V3 POC cars (911 or SC cars with 3.0's and 3.2's with roughly 230 whp and 2400 pounds or so can get into the 1:25-6's with a couple of the expert drivers). The street cars being obviously much heavier will be a lot slower, even GT2's and 3's. I ran my old street 911 (317 whp and 2400) with a few lightly modded GT3's at Big Willow and our times were in the low 30's on R compounds (Hoosier R7's) in 100 degree heat. The GT3 Cup Cars run around 1:25 - 1:19's from what I've seen. My best time in my Cup car was a 1:22 on Michelin slicks (3000 pounds with me in it and 396 whp). The trick to going fast at that track in any car is getting a run out of T5 and going through T8 and T9 as fast as you can. Don't lift in T8! Here's a video of the 1:22 run in the Cup and you don't hear me lifting in T8...That car could probably do in the 19's with a better driver.

thanks for sharing...Ive seen cup cars kill it there but i was curious about something closer to stock. I used to own a 2010 GT3 but my driving has improved much since then...I ran a 1:32 in my boss 302 on hankook R-S3 tires and was really curious and debating with my buddy how I would do in a GT3 and what one is capable of so now I was trying to find some times...

eurotrashdtm is infamous around these parts
I know the BR Racing 7.2 GT3 is running in the 27's with mods, not sure on what tires, likely R6's. Also heard of James Sofronas ran a similar time in a mostly stock gen 2 car.

Here is a very quick time in a mildly modded S2000 street car. Hankook RS3 street tires, 2750 lbs wet without driver, roughly 230whp. 1:30.XXX not bad......

That's good. He is on NT01 tires which are R compounds, at least in the description that's what he says he is on. Great time.

I'm looking into coilovers just want to make sure I'm close to reaching the cars potential in its current state.

If you know of any gt3 vids there with times let me know.

You're right, my mistake. I haven't seen any videos of fast GT3's but here a 1:27 by Jack Olsen.

You have to think of T8 as beginning at the apex of T5. When you think about it, T5 through to T9 is almost 1/2 of the entire track. If you can increase your speed by only a couple of mph's in that entire section you can reap huge payoffs. Once you have that down, try to up the speed through T2 all the way to the brake zone of T3. You are in T2 longer than you realize as it's a long turn. Sounds obvious, but again a small increase in constant mph's through T2 can produce good (noticeable) results. About the best I could do in the 73 RSR clone in T2 was 95 mph. The 7 Cup could hold 110 through T2. Anyway, those were my tricks to get a respectable lap time at WSIR.
