Intake option

I know the gt3 are great cars stock but I still want mods if I'm able to get some extra ponies.

I like the K&N intake due to the enclosed container but I can't believe majority of the owners opt to keep the stock box and run k&n filters instead.

I heard the drop in filters nets no gains but manufacture claims the K&N intake will produce 8hp wiithout tune and 24hp with tune?

So no one on here has ever dyno tested this intake in the past 6 yrs?

I had the K&N Filter charger kit. Removed and sold it for $100.

I run the stock box with the stock filter. It's good enough. K&N lets in too much dirt for my tastes and I like engine preservation.

thanks for the reply. Did it show no improvements or was it just making your engine bay blacker faster? I thought the the charger has an enclosed box so wouldnt the rest of the engine compartment be blocked off?

If you really must put on an intake, look at the oem RS airbox or the cup air box. Do it right the first time or don't do it At all

Go with an exhaust as first mod. I recently bough the Fabspeed competition intake from a friend for a really good price. Thats the main reason I bought it.

Im not expecting any HP gains from the intake but it has changed the sound of the car and looks much better than the OEM air box.

I will be dynoing my car next week. I will post the results if you are interested

You will get heat soak from any aftermarket setup that is not closed up like the OEM box, and the power will then drop. Get the BMC filter with the stock airbox, that is the best option. GruppeM airbox might give some more power, but the price is just wild.

The OEM box has been proven to provide enough air to get 430hp+++ from the 996 GT3 when tuned, so it does not restrict the power one can hope to get out of that engine.

I once did back to back dyno with rear lid open with OEM airbox and then with NO airbox/filter, and the latter lost HP - that is heat soke for you. That is for me proof that the closed box is way better than anything open or with a "heat shield" that is not enclosed for cold air.

How much better is the BMC filter versus the OEM one though?

Heat soak is a big issue but what if u use those yellow heat resistant wraps and cover the outside for the K&N charger and box? Since it's already enclosed I would think this option would work better compared to oem. The oem box is too big so it's not getting constant fresh air flow since trapped hot air is also circulating. Therefore, if we can keep the engine bay heat away then I dont see why the K&N charger wouldn't be better. The results from kn dyno proves the intake work but once it's heat soaked it's a different story.

Also, I already have the sharkwerk muffler bypass exhaust. Fabspeed stated in an u tube video that the bypass mufflers looses hp compared to stock? Is that true?

anything is better than paper oem filter but if u plan to change the oem one every 3-6 months then oem will work without issue since it's cheap. It seems like a lot of ppl on here also only use their BMC filters once instead of washing and reusing...I guess it's a cheap investment to have a better peace of mind. Overall BMC/KN drop in filters will not show any gains compared to oem filters.
