2 CGTs...and a Veyron

Polar and GT Silver.

Wanted to wait for you to leave Arling so we could go for a short cruise, but had a lunch appointment, so had to jet. As they say, next time, next time.

Veyron

A monster, but not as rewarding as the CGT to drive.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Veyron is a phenomenal enginerring achievement, and from most angles it is beatiful.

But that front grill screams EDSEL!

Have you driven the Veyron? I would very much like to hear your impressions of the car if you have.

The car is starting to grow on me a little, I want to see one in person.

That is beautiful. It must be a pretty rare color.

Have never been a fan of polar silver on the 911s ... but on the CGT ... seems more blue than usual ... and makes it perfect. Just perfect. No less. Wow.

I might get flamed for some of my comments, but here goes...

The Bugatti is a technology tour de force, no doubt about that. However, for some reason, I didn't feel special in the car. How should I say it?...it doesn't evoke any emotion, like for example, a Ferrari (Enzo, F430, 360 CS, etc.) or even a CGT for that matter.

The Veyron is superbly put together. The fit and finish is impeccable, as expected from a $1.3 million car. Even the $50k stereo sounded awesome. Everything inside is covered in the finest leather, so in this regard, the Bugatti felt more like a luxury cruiser as opposed to the bare carbon fiber you see inside an Enzo or CGT.

Once seated, the driving position is decent. I'm sure I would have been more comfortable if I fine tuned the seats a little more, but I was anxious to drive the car and didn't want the test driver who rode along to wait forever. Fire up the engine, and there is a distinct whoosh like a jet engine. The car takes off with ease, very smooth...no hesitation, the beauty of the DSG transmission. I think aside from the power, I was most amazed by the tranny. Seamless, effortless. In 7th gear?...want to go down to 3rd? No problem, click click click. No jerkiness like the SMG in an ///M or Ferrari F1 system. Upshift?...no problem again. Smooth as can be and for those familiar with current F1 systems, you don't need to let off the gas to upshift.

And...oh the power. Simply amazing!!! You can cruise around town like you were driving a Toyota, but when you want to destroy any car in your wake, you DESTROY it. I believe it's 1.2 Gs of acceleration at full throttle. The turbos spool up and all you hear is WHOOOSHHH!!! I was too focused on the road to see the HP meter or speedometer, but I was eating up pavement FAST. Things come up in a hurry, but the brakes are up to the task. (Up to 1.3 Gs of deceleration). Very responsive. The steering is light and direct, I would dare say lighter than a CGT or GT3, which is not my cup of tea. I prefer something with more feel.

Which brings me to my final point. Is the car special?...we know it is, it's engineering to marvel at. However, no offense to future Bugatti owners, this is merely my humble opinion...the car is too easy to drive. 70 mph in 7th gear, we were doing 1500 rpm. I know it can bite you with 1001 hp, but it just doesn't involve you like the CGT does. Everything is smooth, effortless and luxurious to the max. It can crush any super/exotic car, I know, but I just didn't feel the passion with this car. For the lucky few though, who I'm sure have a stable of other exotics, the Bugatti is the creme de la creme. Nothing will beat it for years to come...in terms of speed as well as price.

Arling, if you have more to add, please do!!!!

Cheers,
-Nick

Yeah, we have a 993 Turbo in Polar, which was standard then and what drew us to the color. We also had a 996 Turbo in Polar, which has since been sold. So unfair that Polar was standard on the 993 TT, but costed us 2,500 on the 996 TT and 15,500 on the CGT. LOL!!!
