I have read the topic like Z06 VS Porsche like this soooo many times, tired.
I agree that the new Z06 is a nice car. For $70K range this is really a bargain. But I will rather spend another $50K for a fully load new 997 GT3. Why? there is a very simple test you can do: take both 2 stock car to a long track such like Nürburgring, and driving both at NON-STOP(stop for gas only) by pushing 100% for 3 hours, who can last, who is the winner.
If there were no 997 GT3, I rather go for the coming 2008 Honda Super Car, so call HSC, the replacement for NSX, it has 4.0-4.5L V10 and 500HP, but only weight 28xxLbs. I think it will smoke most of the current super cars, even the 997 GT3/Turbo, F430, etc. I like Honda sport cars. They made for performance, rather than a 7.0L engine...
Performance is all related to engineering, I trust Porsche.

Unfortunately the extra in "extra $50K" doesn't exist for most. I bet a lot of people would like to have the Porsche instead...but there are also a lot of Americans that would rather have a Z06. I don't think one is significantly better than the other.

The answer to the the track question is that the GT3 would out last any stock Z06 as well as out preform. by far. The GT3 is a track car made for the street. There is a huge difference between straight line racing from light to light and the track. With that being said the Z06 is a great car but please stop comparing it to the GT3 or turbo they are in different leagues.
Thanks!

From all of the car magazine reviews that I have seen regarding the Z06 Corvette, they all seem to complain about a little vagueness in handling at speed in technically challenging turns. While it didn't slow the car significantly with respect to lap times, it made for moist-palm scenarios for a lot of the magazine writers.
What I loved about my old 996 GT3 was the communicativeness (if that is a word) of the handling. Very sharp and very tactile; I could feel what was going on with all the tires on every corner. I haven't driven the Z06, but I think that is what is missing from the package. Certainly, performance per se is NOT missing.
I am sorely tempted to buy the new 997 GT3, despite my love of cabriolets. I've never owned a Chevy, and I don't think I'll own a Z06 despite its phenomenal capabilities.

The Porsche is a better car in many aspects, but the original post cited performance, and as much as I am looking forward to my new 997 GT3, I wouldn't knock the C6 Z06 in the performance category at all.......You can belittle the Z06's lack of communicative feel, but it'd still hand most other stock performance cars their asses around the track and I ain't talking in a straight line only.
Different leagues? Maybe in build quality, but that's where the buck stops IMO.

Yeah you guys ever hear of Lemans? Sebring? You can't even race a ZO6 in the same category as the GT3 so I agree they are in a different league.
I think some of you are being a bit nearsighted, the ZO6 is an amazing performance car, you can talk about its characteristics all you want but the numbers don't lie.
I love the GT3, its an amazing car, but I'm not stupid.
