Why 997 GT3 not having the 3.8L engine?

I understand the performance of the new 997 GT3. But still don't understand why Porsche didn't use the 3.8L engine for it? If 3.6L can give us 415HP, do you guys think the 3.8L will give more like 430HP?

Anyway, I am waiting for the 997 GT3, still one of the best car Porsche ever made...

Me2, I am thinking about that with the Gt3 and The Turbo they are using the 3.6 not the 3.8, I dont know why if they have used the 3.8 I bet they be at around 440hp max! Now that is somthing

The turbo and gt3 use completely different engine blocks than the 997 Carrera 3.8 engine. The turbo and gt3 engines are true dry sump, derived from the famous gt1. The 997 Carrera and 996 Carrera are watered down versions that are cheaper to make, but still good enough for your novice and average track driver.

I expected them to increase the displacement of the old engine, as opposed to squeezing more efficiency out of it also. Maybe for the Turbo S or GT3RSR?

You want 440 hp. Get this. I eventually will. The whole kit, wheels, wing and all.

WOW I didnt realize the 410 kit I have is 9000 Euros!!
it makes a difference though. So I wonder if I went with the 440 kit
what would the price be since I have the whole exhaust system already
which appears to be the same. I would have to ship the motor and the ECU
I guess. I have a spare Stock GT3 ECU which I could send with the motor.

The 3.8 he is refering to is the cup 997 GT3 variation, not the m97 3.8. Probably holding it back for later if they need to unleash it.

Thanks for the correction C4S Surgeon.. my bad. I just looked up the info. The 3.8 L in the GT3 Cup by Brumos produces 510hp!!! Holy $%!! Here's the link: http://www.motorsport.com/news/artic...ANDAM-GRANDCUP
Maybe I'll wait for that version!

Yea but 510hp not on 93 octane I bet...

410 on 93 octane you get on the street is pretty amazing... I would think 440-450 for the 3.8 which would compete too closely with the turbo... Maybe for the MKII 997 GT3 or an RS version
