Retrofit rear seats in a 996 GT3??

Is it possible? Drove one yesterday, liked it but I will never hear the end if both kids cannot come along at the same time.

You would have to add seatbets etc etc etc. I am sure it could be done, but for it to be safe (and legal) for your little ones, it is going to be very expensive. TT is a completely different car, but not a bad idea considering your situation.

Yes I agree about the TT, it is different. Very fast, but the GT3 sounds amazing above 6K. Kids may be out of luck

I would suggest checking with PCNA. The GT3 may have all the same mounting holes as the GT3 in the rear. Most of the older Porsche Club Sport models did. It may be a matter of purchasing the components and installing (or having your shop of choice do it).

I considered that as well and briefly checked into it; it sounded expensive and made the use of a roll bar impossible of course.
I ditched the GT3 for that very reason and got a 997S. I love it, but it's no GT3.
You can however have the airbag deactivation bar installed and take one at a time...

i just can't believe the purists on here aren't losing their minds right now and flaming the hell out of you. maybe they're too busy writing letters to Porsche about the sunroof in the new GT3

I going though the same issue considering a 997 GT3 (plus the sunroof delete issue: 6’3” + helmet + sunroof = damn uncomfortable). I spoke with the dealer who said that several dealers had raised the question of retrofitting rear seats into the GT3 at the PCNA dealer intro for the 997 GT3. PCNA told them not to do this as the car had not been certified in the US with rear seats. However, I can’t believe Porsche would dilute profits by making a GT3 specific body without the rear seat and belt attachment points (although none of the hardware is there and the attachment points are covered by carpet). They are going to confirm that the threaded anchor points are present with the first GT3 that they get in. At this stage I’m thinking of putting in the factory child seat anchors and rear belts and using a child seat without the factor rear seats as they make rear legroom very tight. Factory anchors and belts installed in factory anchor points and torqued to factory spec will yield factory safety levels.

Seamus, I'm going to need a ride in that thing when you get it. I bet they have the sunroof delete option for the '08 model year.

At least one person has put seats in the back of a 996 GT3. Do a search on rennlist for details.

If you wanted to chance it you could always find somebody who has ripped out their interior to sell them pretty cheap. I have to pull them out for the cage and never thought that anybody would want them.

I actually might be coming across a black set of rear seats and seat belts that will be removed from a Turbo. I am sure we can work something out if you are interested.

Seamus....

Can you elaborate on the child seat anchors....I too just want to put just the child seat in the back. Please keep me posted on what is needed to do this job.
