What You Do About Observers

So, like the title suggests, what do you rich folk(the ones with the cool cars like CGT) do when people stand around your car and take pictures and stuff? Last night, I was with some friends and spotted a CGT, my girlfriend was all into so we went to take a look. Then the guy told us not to touch his car, and he apparantly said some things that offended my girl when she asked about the car. I forgot what though, probly some cocky answer, I was too busy looking at the car. But it made me wonder, how do you guys handle it?

Not to say that the CGT owner was right in what he did, but it can get a bit annoying having to deal with the observers sometimes.

I think most "exotic" car owners are pretty good mannered. Eventually, as an owner you have to get used to the fact that your car attracts a lot of attention. It is not their fault for wanting to see your car, when your car is screaming for attention! You soon realize that being courteous and friendly is always in good form.

If I find people gathered around taking pictures, I will actually offer to have them sit in the car while I take their picture for them. Makes everyone happy, including me

I love it when kids wanna check out your car. Particularly if they know something about cars in general, or your type of car in particular. I love to encourage that. I am constantly taking kids that I've never seen before for rides.

I agree, we probably all had the passion stoked as kids. On the flipside, I had a parent insist that I let his two 3-4 yrd olds sit in the F40 at a show...well, the grass was wet and muddy, but I couldn't refuse, and watched in dismay as the parent carefully lifted his kids in and allowed them to walk over the seats in muddy shoes. All the guy cared about was getting his kids in, no worries about tracking the mud. It all came out, but inconsiderate nonetheless. Attention is ok, but sometimes it gets a little too close. Today while driving the CGT, I was followed at very close range by a 968 cab being driven by a teen holding a camcorder. I dislike being tailgated (although it usually doesn't last long )He then proceeds to follow me for 4-5 miles, pulls into the restaurant parking lot behind me, and holds up traffic while he stops behind me. I told him he might want to move forward so he could let the other cars pass and his response was "to hell with them !" Sometimes you just don't have time for long talks.

I have let many people sit in my car and a few people that I have known through car forums drive my CGT.

I went to a drive earlier this year and let anyone who wanted to sit in the car and take pictures, I also popped the engine compartment about 10 times for people to see and take more pictures.

Only a few things bother me, when people lean or rub against the car, I wouldn't do that to a honda civic and it bothers me when people are careless. I also don't like when they ask how much the car costs, I don't like telling people how much I paid for anything, let alone a car that costs more than a lot of houses.

When I was young I used to babysit for a guy that always had cool cars and when I turned 16 and got my drivers license he used to let me take them for a spin. I don't think I was ever more careful than when I was driving those cars!

2 sides to every coin...not just exotic car owners but anyone with nice modified cars at one point or another has to answer questions....

Even in an area as large as the bay area, I have a lot of people who start to recognize me/my cars so it's always nice to say hello or chat but of course this is dependent on my schedule since I always seem to be late for things.

I think one day when I own a CGT or other nice car I'll be very open to talking to people as long as they are courteous in return. They have to understand that although we love to show the cars, it's also an expensive investment for the owners.

As an observer to nice cars, I always make it a point to not lean on the car and put my hands behind my back unless the owner and I talking and he is leading me to the car. I think this is basic respect for another person's property whether it's an expensive car or not.

As the owner of a nice car, I try to be friendly to talk to people but also cut the conversation short if I feel uncomfortable or do not like the crowd. This is a simple judgement call but I am never rude. I remember when I was young and just loved looking at nice cars so I always try to accomodate kids if possible as long as the parents are around.

And to that rude CGT owner, I definitely do NOT condone that behavior at all - this is an easy way to get your car key'd later if you happen to meet a person of that character. While I do not agree you should damage another person's car out of revenge, it also gives him no right to insult another person just because you have a nice car. Who knows, the other person could probably be more wealthy but prefers to spend his assets on other things?

Be kind, be thankful of your good fortune to enjoy these nice toys, and be willing to share your enjoyment. I live by those rules

it's annoying but being rude to observers is just plain stupid. drive a car like this doesn't make u a special or better person. however, only thing i hate is being followed while driving especially later the night because u don't know what ur facing. especially cars trying to cut traffic to be around me etc. i must admit the attention sometimes makes me want to sell the car but well, u have to deal with what u have to deal with.
