Alcantera wheel question

For those of you with the alcantera steering wheel, how does it hold up to daily use? I'm thinking about having my wheel wrapped and I can choose either leather, suede or alcantera. Suede is softer and looks better but gets pretty matted down and beaten up when bare hands touch it a lot. Is alcantera a lot more durable or should I just go with leather?

I've got a Gallardo with an alcantera wheel. I was nervous about this, too, but after about a year and 7,000 miles it's held up just fine.

Are you an auto mechanic or a clean room technician?

I spec'd my GT3 with leather. Will buy the Alcantara wheel ($470). Will try them both out. . . no big deal

...well I can tell you I don't want to wear gloves when I'm driving around town. Actually I am a mechanic, I work for a company that does suspension and brakes for subarus and evos. We mostly focus on setting up cars for time attack and scca solo2 competition (we sponsor several cars, including two that are running in 1Lap this year). This wheel would actually be for my STi. I don't drive a p-car yet, but hopefully one day. I actually stumbled upon this site doing some research to help out my father, who drives a 997 C4S. Anyway, rant over...back to your regularly scheduled program.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm getting a GT3 with a CF wheel. Thinking about selling it and getting the alcantera wheel.

Go move or bad move?

It's fine for about 15k miles, after that it starts wearing out pretty bad.

Leather is hard to beat. With minor maintenance it will only improve over the years.

That's not so bad, $400 every 15,000 miles to replace the wheel.

have leather thicker steering wheel w/ mine...less headache and maintenance, though alcantara looks great.
