They both handle extremely well. Right on par with the GT3.

What about the prices?

I know the ZO6 is cheaper, what about the Viper?

So any good reasons for "drivers" to stick with a GT3 and not those cars?

Both are much less expensive than a new GT3, and I'd love to have a C6 Z06 in the garage. That having been said; I'd still take a 997 GT3 over both of them without a second thought.

Anyone?
There is no doubt that Porsche makes the best use of it's power through engineering. The Corvette is quite a bit faster though even on much worse tires. I'd be willing to say the small margins would become bigger ones if the cars had been running the exact same tires. The viper does not handle well but with 600 hp it should be able to beat the GT3 on most courses. And the new viper will have PS2's which will help it at testing very well.

The Viper handles *extremely* well.

It pulls 1.02 G's on the skidpad (compared to the Z06's .97), does a faster figure-8 than the Z06 (24.4 vs 24.8 seconds), and also beat the Z06 around Willow Springs with the same driver. No doubt the tires had something to do with it, but the end result is stock for stock on the factory rubber, the Viper outhandles the Z06.

Comparison test here:

About the HP WAR

Something different about the GT3 is 415hp is a bit handful compared with F430, AMGs, TT, etc.

Do you think so?

I personally believe 415 is an underrated number.

I love HP, but I suspect I would love a GT3 or GT3RS just as they come. What a great, balanced, wonderful car. I don't think they're having much trouble finding buyers . . .

HP is all well and good, but take a few laps at your local road course in a GT3, and the last thing on your mind will be wishing for another 50 hp. It will be wishing you were a better driver, or if you are really that good, then you'll be wishing for sub 2800 lbs wet.

This is why you don't see experienced track drivers obsessed over hp. . . power mods are typically pretty far down the wants list.

I think 415 is JUST fine and would be very happy for them to continue to stay at 415...as long as they start making it even MORE lightweight...

Like someone said...I would be THRILLED if Porsche brought out a 415hp, 2700-2800 lb car...that thing would be a ROCKET...

On the track the GT3 will more than make up for the relative lack of power.

Gaining hp is somewhat realistic. The aftermarket has shown it can be done (ECU flash, intake, exhaust, etc.). In an ideal world of course we would love to take 200-300 lbs. off of the car, but that is just not nearly doable in today's world. With the strengthening safety laws car companies are adding more weight, not taking it off. More airbags, more body enhancements. Unfortunatley more weight, not less is the norm. Porsche could look into making the unibody aluminum like Jaguar, that might be a way but I don't see it happening. It would be great though.

I think we could all agree that your precious chevys are far superior than anything that comes out of europe. You successfully changed all our minds. Now you can find a new forum to change their minds. Thanks you for enlightening us. I will give you some positive reputation points for your hard work.

Agreed, they should really be lightened up a little bit, but then we have the GT3 RS.. Also there was a video of a 997TT and GT3 on the track, and the GT3 held its on even in the straights, its not underpowered with its gearing one bit!
