1987 Countach photos
I got to drive the dream. I grew up with posters of this car on my bedroom wall. I was able to sneak out on an extended lunch break and capture some quick shots of the beast. Unbelievable car, less than 5000 original kms. Interesting to drive.

I remember having a poster of a white Countach in my room as a kid. I thought it was the best car ever made.

Still today that is my favorite. Great photos. I got to sit in a 78 countach years ago, it was awesome. Now I would like a ride in one, actually I would like to drive one. Thanks for sharing
My first impression was awe. Swing the door up, slide my butt into the seat and swing my feet in.
First problem? I wear a size 12 steel toed boot at work, so shoes came off. No way i could fit my feet across the pedals and drive normally with anything more than a slipper on.
Fire the car up, it idles well even when cold, although slightly high. Let it warm for a few minutes while i accustomize myself with the interior, the controls, and the dash layout.
Release the e-brake, ease the shifter into 1st. hmmm. Try that again. Ease the shifter into 1st. Oh hell, where the F is first gear. AHHH. Ease the shifter to the left and then pull TOWARDS you into first gear. Slowly ease the clutch out and find the engagement point. No problem. I pull out onto the main street.. to the shock of the people around. Make my way down the road.
Now, the 1-2 shift was fun. Up around 3,000 rpm in 1st. Clutch in, shifter up to 2nd position. Nothing. Push a little more... nothing. Give it some gas to match rev a little. NOTHING. Push with a TON of force. VOILA, 2nd gear is found.
After driving for about 15-20 minutes the gearbox warmed up and enabled smooth shifting in all gears. The idle also FINALLY came down.
After taking a bunch of photos i made my way back to the dealership. We have this one really nice long bridge through vancouver that has a big crest in the middle of it. I came over the top of that bridge doing about 50km/h. Took a long look down, ensuring there was a clear road ahead, and no friendly police officers were awaiting me at the bottom. Clutch in, 2nd gear. Clutch out, and roll my right foot to the floor.
I have to say, i must have scared the HELL out of the two people i passed as the car came up around 6500rpm. I didn't take it further than that, this car was a garage queen. It's been driven lately, but i wasn't prepared to break it.
It made all the right sounds. More like the BEST sounds. Not the fastest car i've driven by far, but enjoyable? Oh hell yes.
