TT Gallardo transmission?

For those who have driven both, do you prefer manual or e-gear?

I've never really been a fan of the 'autos' but after watching a few videos of TTG's w/e-gear it looks rather appealing.

Any insight appreaciated

RedGTS is infamous around these parts
I was open to either tranny and wound up with E-gear because that's what the car I found which was otherwise the "right" car had in it, and I've been very happy with it. With that said, if you're into drag racing or plan to drag race much, I would think you'd want a 6-speed because launching an E-gear car from a dig is problematic (and would be more so with a TT car).

Thanks for the info. As far as launching an e-gear from a dead stop is it just that it gets brought out at too low of an rpm or is it inconsistent? (or both)

If you accelerate WOT from a dead stop how does the car react? Thanks.

The pre-560 G has a "performance launch" mode where you can turn off ESP, put in Sport mode, and slam the gas and the car will rev to 5,000 rpm and dump the clutch. Needless to say this isn't optimal for a number of reasons: it's very hard on the clutch and drivetrain (and Lambo clutches aren't cheap), and you still don't have the micro control you would want at a track, i.e., you'd have to somehow watch as the lights were coming down and also guess at how long it would take to accomplish the rev to 5,000 and dump maneuver, etc. since you aren't holding the gas at a steady rpm and don't have direct control over the clutch. I've never heard of anyone doing one of these with a TT car, although it may have happened. Most people just don't do them period because of how hard they are on the clutch. If you floor the gas from a stop without having ESP off/Sport on, you basically get a big hiccup/lurch before the car takes off which is not what you'd want at all. So the best way to launch one is simply give it moderate gas until the clutch catches and then floor it. Which is fine for most situations but not what you'd want for a racing type situation.

The LP560 has a bit more sophisticated launch or "thrust" mode which is similar but has the added step of holding your left foot on the brake, which acts as the trigger to release the car. IOW the car will hold the revs high as long as your left foot is on the brake and right foot is WOT, and then release the clutch as soon as you take your left foot off the brake. So it would be easier to time the launch than with an earlier car, but you're still limited to the preset launch rpm and preprogrammed clutch slippage.

I would speak with Kevin at UGR. He has told me that the 6 speed is just more consistent, and strong on lots of fronts. He told me that the solenoid on the egear can be very expensive to fix if it breaks therefore the 6 speed keeps it old fashioned and simple. I would call him and see what he has to say exactly. PM me if you want his info and Ill get you connected to him.

Thanks, seems reasonable enough to me. I have always preferred a manual transmission but thought I would ask as I've never driven an e-gear car (stock or otherwise).

I did contact UGR about the purchase of an AEM or Motec system and a base file and didn't recieve a response. (I understand their reluctance as I work at a shop as a tuner/fabricator), so I will not bother them with anything else.

Their work with the TTG's is extremely impressive though.

I like the 6 speed. E gears are great also ESP the SL and 560 setups. PM sent.
