AMG Black Series terrible in the track

A friend has a new MB BS so we went to a track day last weekend, we made some laps and if you ask for some performance the gearbox will protect and switch from sport mode to normal mode so you have to go out and turn off the car to reset the computer.

Strange I thought it was a very sporty edition and a track capable car,we are very disappointed.

Traction control is never really "off" in a MB.

MB is an old man's car. C'mon, only it uses A/T. Not meant for the track.

Why would you assume that is normal for a BS? Of all the reviews out there and personal testimonials of the BS performance on the track, have you ever heard a similar complaint? And there is no normal mode. There is sport, comfort and manual. The car doesn't switch modes by itself. Assuming your friend really has the car, he should get it checked out at the dealer.

I agree 100%. Everyone else who tracked the CLK63BS had no such problems and was very happy with the experience. From most owner's impressions, its actually a fairly decent track car. Nothing like GT3RS of course, but pretty good nonetheless.

Also if you want to turn the traction off completely, you have to put the car in "dyno mode". This also disables the ABS, so be careful with that.

Yes the car switches modes by itself to "protect" himself when doing light track you cant even push the car close to the limit.
"Assuming your friend really has the car" what do you mean ?

Hello Et550..

Im The Owner Of The Clk63bs, And A Friend Of Luis Carlos, What He Is Saying Is Absolutely True, We Took It The Other Day To The Track And Let Me Tell You That If You Push Hard on The Gearbox It Will Protect Itself To The "c" (confort Mode).

Im Happy With The Car To Use It On The Highway And All Over The City, But As Soon As You Go In To The Track Its Terrible Compare To Other "track" Cars.

I Simply Dont Understand Why Mercedes Is Puting A Regular Tiptronic Gearbox Instead Of A Sequential One !!!

Once Again, Its Not A Bad Car !!!! But Its Not The Marvel That Mercedes Was Talking About.

I Hope I Was Clear

Enjoy

I still don't understand why they don't stick a damn proper 6-speed manual and offer the automatic as an option, or vice versa... Kinda like BMW's M cars.
Yes, most of the MB's are for older people... but come on, a performance oriented car with an automatic, however advanced it may be, is still not as fun as a performance oriented car with a properly geared manual, even if it's 0.05 seconds slower, it's not like the owners are going to go 11/10ths (figure of speech, but you get the point) all the time at the track.
Same for pretty much every other AMG car... they seem to want to give a "fresher, younger" style to the cars, but only offer slushboxes. Even the MCT will not give the same feeling of connection as a manual.
Anyhow, it's not my job to decide for AMG... seems like I'll have to start my own car make to really have what I want hehe.

So tell me where in that video is he having problems with the gearbox shifting into comfort mode to protect itself. All he says is that it didnt downshift once
when he pressed the left paddle (some of the early cars had faulty left paddles which were corrected). Bottom line is he is tracking the car pretty hard with no problems. What is amazing to me is that for someone who claims to have the cars that you do, that you would just assume that whatever you think your car is doing is normal and that you wouldn't take it into to get it checked out. But hey, if you have more money than brains then park the car in the garage and call it a dog all you want.
