How has your E55 experience been?
As much as I want to upgrade from the 350Z to a 997, I'm being swayed towards the E55 lately. It's hard to argue with 516 lb of torque and it's responsive to mods with many dipping into the 11's.
They've depreciated a ton and with current gas prices dealers are willing to negotiate - nice examples can be had for mid 40's.
Thoughts?

Any problems or do they tend to be reliable? If I were to pick up an 04 should I be worried at all? I had an 01 Audi back in 05 and the thing gave me nothing but one problem after another. I've never owned a Benz so don't know about reliability first hand.

They are expensive to fix, like any other mercedes, but it is reliable.
The only things you will most likely have to replace is some ball joints here and there, torque arm bushings, maybe air mass sensor and crank position sensor (weak links in a lot of Mercedes).
The car is a torque monster and a lot of fun to drive.
Gas prices be damned.

Awesome car; have a couple clients with them as daily drivers.
They love the cars, but a warranty is a MUST.

Yes, everyone keeps emphasizing the warranty - I hear a supercharger replacement can be upwards of $8k. I've also heard mods can potentially "blacklist" your car from the dealer repair network?

I love my 2006 E55. Other than my 996TT, it's my favorite car I've ever owned. Ridiculously fast, very practical, acceptable gas mileage (much better than M5), and so far it's 95% reliable. I've only had 2 warranty claims on the car, and neither of them were serious.
I agree with others that a warranty is 100% mandatory.

Got it....but warranty is a must....thanks for the input so far everyone, keep it coming! Making time to test drive one of these is hard lately so I enjoy reading "real" people comments

It's not the gas prices, these cars just depreciate like crazy due to everyone leasing them. Most people would prefer to lease a new E63 than finance a used E55 for less. I had my E55 for two years. Aside from the horrible depreciation its the best all-around car I've ever owned. However, having 2 small children does factor into it.

E55 is the best street driven car to own at these current prices imo. Just the other day, i took a 997c2s 1 car length from a redlight going approx. 1/8 mi. He first blew past me on a busy street & i caught up w/ him at the next light to show him the 55's tail lights therefter. The e55 is so nice with the massage/adaptive seats & comfort ride that even gives sport cars for example a 997c2s run for its money. The only issue i had since owning the E55 now at 33k miles is panoramic roof rattle noise which the dealership replaced the seals & no noises thereafter.
