My 'New' E350 Cabriolet - worn switches
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum but not the site. I just picked up a 'new to me' 2013 E350 Cabriolet. The search criteria is confusing for me as I have seen the car variously referred to as a W212, W207. A207 and C207. Various people have referred to it as a 'hybrid' between the C and E class cars. Is this true? A C class platform with an E class interior?
My car has 99K and I bought it as a summer fun car. It has some 'well known' issues such as occasional hard downshifting and worn window buttons. I really like the car so it may winter here as well.
I will DYI the cosmetics and I have tried to remove the driver window switches but all my handy dandy trim tools did is partially lift the switch and break the chrome trim. No tears as I have a new unit. I guess I should have just gotten the snap in button but I have passed the point of no return.
I also want to change out the climate control panel and passenger door window switch.
It looks like the window switches should just pry out but I have not had success. Is there a way to get them out without removing the door panels? I have looked at the new switches and they do not seem to have any places for bolts but something is holding them in. They move about a half inch up and that is it. There seems to be a latch on the front and from the looks of it I thought that lifting trom the back would swivel it out, but obviously I am mistaken.
I have looked at YT videos for the climate control as well as the window switches to no avail. There is one video showing the climate control panel removal but it shows a 'ledge like' piece of trim to access the two upper bolts. The panel on my car has a flat trim piece and unlike the switches I am not eager to force the issue as I do not have a replacement for that trim piece.
Sorry a bit long winded but does anyone have experience with replacing these items? I always search first but I do not see a forum thread. Any links to forum threads or other external links much appreciated. I do have a service manual on order but it has not arrived yet.
Thanks in advance.
Jim
