this is a mac pro..... not the laptop.

 

When did it come out? 4 core or 8?

 

it was purchased back on Jan of 2007, i am not sure if it is a 4 core or 8, if you tell me where to look i'll post it up.

It really depends on what you are using it for. The majority of users will not need the power of 8 cores and will not know the difference. 4 cores are PLENTY short of video encoding and heavy graphic design.
