Local High Performance Driving Schools?

Fellas:

I'm looking for a school with an opening in the next few weeks. One which provides their own cars. Local is better. Any thoughts?

I don't know of any local schools that provide the car.

You may have to go several hours to VIR, Watkins Glen or NJMP etc. for a racing school.

Mid-Ohio school, Skip Barber and Bondurant provides cars. Closest to you would be Mid-Ohio.

Mid-Ohio is 400 miles from Takoma Park.

NJMP is 140 miles, VIR is 255 and Watkins Glen is 300. Even Lime Rock is closer at 325 miles.

There aren't any great options and, surprisingly, the BMW M School seems like the best deal. Anyone been?

Location / Days / Cost / Notes

BMW / NC / 2 / 3295 / incl. hotel and food
Bond / PHX / 3 / 3275
Skip / Conn. / 2 / 3500
Fellows / Vegas / 3 / 3695 / Hotel?

Depends upon what you want from the school.

Why are you choosing to not do local HPDEs?

Find me a school with a class in August that provides its own cars. This was the best I could do.

you'll definitely have to travel to use someone else's car, but it's more fun to use your own (unless you drive a bus).

i've done the BMW ///M school several times and its a blast! However, you'll learn alot more at an HPDE

Kravamore save your money on the Porsche Driving (PDA) and the M- school - those are more for entertainment than anything else. Go to Skippy or Burtil Roose at Lime Rock...you will not be dissapointed. If you want tin top training try Bondurant in Nevada.

LRP is farily local it's in Connecticut...

or as Pseto said, do a few DE's ...they are cheaper per event and you learn a ton. BRS is a good one for a single day starter at a couple of hundred bucks with your own car and passenger instructor, we ussually fill up the students in non-advanced groups early so sign up as soon as you can. Same goes for BMW CCA and PCA.

good luck to ya

I'm going to look into this as well, since I want to learn my car around the turns...Sunir does SP offer HPDE's?

BSR puts on the FATT program and Seat time, the FATT (friday at the track) is for beginner, intermediate, and advanced non-solo (and some solo) drivers...this is the one you will want to look into. Check on their website for available dates and times...

As for HPDEs, those are offered by clubs like PCA, BMW CCA, and others - they are multi-day events and provide in car instruction, just like FATT...so either way you'll be learning and have someone working with you. For these events and dates you will need to check on the club/organizations website...the next one I plan to attend is the BMW CCA Tarheel event at VIR Aug 27 - 28, at which I will eiather have one or two students for the 2 day event, whereas in a FATT we alternate per session based on need requirments.

hops this helps bud
