I'm back
I'm back
Well, I sold my prized Gt2 a few months ago and I disappeared for a while, but I couldn't stay away for long. I didn't want to spend 6 figures again to have fun. I just wanted something I could drive around and have some fun and maybe get the thumbs up from a Porsche enthusiast every once in a while. Maybe modify it slightly, meet you guys for coffee and get the, "Wow man this thing is sweet" comment. I'm going up to PA Saturday to look at this.
1979 Porsche 930 Turbo. One owner (that's right, 1 owner!) 36,000 miles. Service records from day 1. Owner is 64 years old, 34 year PCA member, also owns a 356 (concourse winner), a 993, and a RS America (track car) and this. Wants to buy a Gt3 and the wife told him he has to sell something. He bought this car when he was 32. The car has been serviced since day one at Thompson Porsche (formerly Holbert's). I called them yesterday and they have oil change records going back to 2000. The car comes in once a year for an oil change. In 2000, the car had 32k miles on it, so he drove it approximately 4000 miles in the last 11 years. Here is his response to a question on Ebay. He already did the top end of the motor, no leaks.
"Interior is like new, original paint, always garaged and only hand polished with Maguires M-7, my standards are high (I have a 356 cab national show winner). I would rate the paint 8 out of 10. The radio was upgraded to a Blaupunkt Tuscon. There is no dash shrinkage and the car needs nothing. The car has never been in any accidents, however I did upgrade to a Ruf spoiler. The upgrades include K-27 turbo, stainless steel headers, Ruf exhaust, larger oil cooler, H-4 headlights, European fog lights, built in VDO gauges-oil, temp and amp, alarm system, Speedline 18" wheels, R-134 A/C upgrade and Sanyo compressor, built in Escort front and rear. The tool kit is still in plastic, I have original invoice and all receipts since new. I have all the books, extra keys and key fob."
Here is the Ebay ad and some photos that he sent me. I have an appointment with Thompson Porsche for a PPI and leak down test next week. If it works out, I'll be driving it home next Saturday. What do you guys think? It's not a 650 hp Gt2, but it's sweet in a different way, eh? I already thought of a tag "Nine30" or "9Thirty."

Mario it's perfect
Love that car...I really love the 964 and 993 as well, with the RS America being among my favorite of the all time 911 lineup!
You have nice taste...kinda funny how you might end up back in a red 911 though lol...was that just coincidence or was a part of you secretly looking for red one

I went by Saturday to look at it in person. Couldn't drive it (snow), but the car was near mint. I left a deposit and after a PPI with a leak and compression test, I will drive it Saturday and hopefully close the deal. Check out this guy's garage. Sweet eh?
