Formula 101: Driving an F2000 car.

Hello all.

Thanks to a generous offer by 'Rhys' (he of the new 2006 Rosso Leto Spyder, which is a beauty, by the way), I had the chance to do a Formula 101 driving experience in Hershey, PA.

These are retired Formula Ford/F2000 cars. 2.0L V4. 150HP. 900 lbs. 0-60 in 4.2 and top speed of 160mph (depending on the gearing, I assume). We had 4 speed standard H-box transmissions.

It was amazing.

The set up for the timed laps, shown in the video, was: 1-3 progressive warm up (cool, med, and hot), then 4-5 to chill out and gather oneself, then 6-10 to let it all hang out for the timed portion (look for the waving green flag to signal the start of this).

If you ever get the chance, give it a shot. It really makes me want to track my car, or find another car to take to the track.

It feels a lot rougher than it looks. What a blast.

Darn you Kev - I had no idea you were there. Heather and I stood there watching the cars run for a while after we hit up Chocolate world - looks like an utter blast!

This was actually on Friday, the day before Castaway Critters.

Rhys and I talked about getting a group of drivers together in October when the Formula 101 folks are back in Hershey and setting up a day of driving.
