Mini seats are crap...

Liking this little car more and more, but I have to say the seats are pretty bad. Anyone running an aftermarket seat that is comfortable and looks good that fits well in the Mini?

One issue is that in the USA, MINI seats have an air bag in the side. I haven't seen any replacement seats that accomodate the air bag. If you disconnect it then you lose some some safety, have a warning light on and the others may not work. We went through this when we had Recaros in our 2003 MCS. Newer ones may be different.

I've seen a JCW modded Mini with their optional seats. Looked like a Sparco. Much better, I'm sure, than the stockers.

How much are the sport seats?
I've got the standard seats as well and they're sub par when it comes to spirited driving.

I plan on getting some track time this summer if I have the time. Plus, it would be a nice plus on my daily commute.

Felix, so now that you're back home, are you getting a car (not a Smart...)?

I didn't realize you would lose the airbags. Don't want to give up safety, just to get a better seat. Marc, our Mini was north of $30k so I do expect a better seat in that price range, it is one of the few areas where I think BMW dropped the ball with this great little car. BMW normally has seats I really like so I was surprised at how little support these seats give you.

Thanks for the help guys!
