Turbo will give you a better all-around driving experience, IMO.

There's a stronger aftermarket for the R53 just because it's been out longer, but the R56 responds very well to mods. They're so light they don't need much power to feel quick, I have an 05 JCW which I love but it would be nice to have the better gas mileage of the R56.

I have an '05 MCS with the alta pulley and milltek exhaust and this thing is screamer... Such a stealthy little thing that just pounces when you drop the hammer. Alas, I am selling it since I've gotten my new toy (08 E92 M3) so it's avail. only 15k miles and I am the orig. owner

Which one to get? I would recommend driving them both. I just bought an 07 MCS auto. Yes...I got the auto. Well, I'm not planning on racing it and if you look at the numbers the 07 MCS auto is the fastest Mini you can get. Yes, even faster than the JCW :-)

My wife bought a 6-speed so I figured, why not have the option of having an auto.

Anyhow, the newer Cooper is a bit more refined and as someone put perfectly, it's like comparing an E36 M3 to the E46 M3....having owned 3 E36 M3's I preferred that car over the newer more refined M3 (yes I've driven both) so it seems that it comes down to preference with the mini cooper S turbo VS supercharged.

My advice, drive them both then decide. Good luck!

my dad had both the supercharged S and now the turbo S. From driving both cars, I prefer the response from the supercharged S. It was just more fun to drive overall. The turbocharged version gives you a lot more aftermarket options, but if you really want power, then don't buy a mini.

my .02

Turbo oil leak

They are different and owning and driving both I can say that the R56 version is "better" than the R53. Many of the little annoying issues with the R53 in terms of NVH, dash rattles, etc. etc. are all gone. The new car has a bit more luxury flair to it and since this is a predominantly porsche/luxury owners group I suspect you all will be like me and like it more as well. PLUS the MPG, etc. is better than the earlier car. If I am not driving the Murci I routinely drive one of my MINI's back and forth to work. The R56 gets more than 500 mpt and the R53 is lucky to break 375-400 mpt.

If anyone has ANY questions about the MINI I am more than willing to help.

Thanks for letting me ramble!
Hi, I was told the turbo models are notorious for leaking oil. I was wondering if this were true, or should I stick with looking for a newer model? Thanks

I have the R53. A lot of bang for your buck with these cars. Handling is great, power is only O.K. But loads of fun to drive.
