running paths ?
i've got insomnia right now... i find myself up & down the peninsula - what are your favorite running paths? (does anyone else run?) with my hobby, need to exercise to prevent from blowing up.
my favorites:
1. Crissy Field (SF) - it can be super windy, but there's not a better place to run on a clear night. start at the parking lot, run to the base of the bridge, and watch the city/moon on your way back. 3 miles.
2. The Foothills / Dish (Palo Alto) - it takes a fair bit of work just to walk the damn thing, but now i'm crazy enough to run up most of the hills. there may not be a better workout out there. i think it's 3 miles or so.
3. The Reservoir (near San Mateo / 92) - you can run as far as you like, up to 7 miles i think, but the first half will be slightly uphill. this run is difficult for me b/c of the mile markers - i start anticipating when i will see the next .5 marker and i lose my momentum.
what are some other good runs? i like short hard bursts (like the foothills) or scenic views (crissy field) the most...

from one insomniac to another----
there is a 3.5 mile ring off of Whipple Rd. east Redwood city. if you get to the toyota dealer youve gone too far....
when you exit the freeway it's your first right (dirt/unpaved driveway) park anywhere

I used to run, way out of shape now.
1. Rancho San Antonio Park in Los Altos (might be Cupertino) is fantastic, several miles of cross country trails, some flat some brutal hill climbs. http://www.openspace.org/preserves/p...an_antonio.asp
2. Steven's Creek Trail is a great running path that starts in Mountain View on Middlefeild and runs all the way out to Shoreline Park http://www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/baytr...vw/Btmtvw1.htm
3. Campbel/Los Gatos Creek Trail, runs from (as you might guess) Campbell to Los Gatos along the Los Gatos Creek. It goes all the way up to Lexington Reservoir. Most of the trail is paved with the exception of section from downtown LG to the reservoir. http://www.sjparks.org/Trails/LosGatos/LosGatos.asp

If you want a hardcore workout, run Windy Hill. It's at the bottom of the last section of Alpine Road in Portola, and goes from there with a 1500-1800ft. vertical to Skyline. It's obviously very scenic, but it's a very hard workout.
There are also a number of parks up Page Mill road that have good trails, and several places off Skyline if want are more off-the-beaten-path run.

I could share some fun trails that would great for running, but the only ones I know of would probably get you run over by some crazy mtn bikers bombing down the hill at 60mph
