Renting a Trailer

Hey Everyone,

How are you all doing?

Well I know a lot of you guys are track junkies and a lot of you (at one point or another) have trailered your car for one reason or another. I am trying to see if I can rent a trailer and I was hoping that you guys might know of some places where I could do that. The only place I know of is U-haul and I am not sure how much I trust their trailers and if they would even be suitable for low cars. Then again, maybe they have some optional insurance I could get just in case

Unfortunately this isnt for a track event or anything like that. Yesterday afternoon my transmission decided it was time to die. haha. I have called a few shops and they said that they'd prefer to take a look at it before giving me any kind of real quote (since it could be something small or something major ) I was originally just going to have the car towed to the shop but I figured a simple trailer might be easier and possibly cheaper.

Thanks for any and all input, I really appreciate it

I am sure that this is obvious, but if you are not planning on going too far, a flatbed tow truck may be worth looking into... not renting but having them haul it to the shop... of course unless you want to take it to multiple shops for quotes etc...

Short of Uhaul, you might want to call a trailer sales place (freeway trailers in Fife for example and see if they will rent one -- maybe they would rent out a used one etc)

Or do what you are doing and post it on the boards and maybe one of the locals that owns a trailer would rent you thiers for a day or two...

Good luck!

The U-haul trailers actually work great. I rented one when I towed my old 911 I bought in California. I towed it all the way up without a single problem. I also rented one for my old Boxster that was lowered for a tow to Portland. I just put a few pieces of wood under the front tires to keep the front bumper from hitting the trailer.

that red carrera is stunning why did you get rid of that. holy crap.

woops the thread. find the place to get the work done and hire a flat deck. safe quick and hardly no time out of your day. best 150 bucks you could ever spend.

i own a race car trailer and hire flat decks to get my cars around whenever needed.

That was the car I had for a whole 3 months. I traded that and my Boxster in for the 993TT.

Thank you all for the advice, greatly appreciated. I'll definitely have to look around at some trailer sales places as well as U-haul. Flat bed tow trucks scare me, how low can they go? I dont really want to take my front bumper off or raise the car just to take it to the shop (but I may have to do that unfortunately).

Again, thanks for the advice and tips.

by the way, David, that porsche was stunning!

i've hauled my ferrari's, porsche's and racecars on flat decks a lot. If your concerned use the guys that FOS use the decks are low enough you can drive the cars on them.

+1,
Cole, I had my car once flat bed to bmw of bell, when i had the sc installed. The driver who towed the car from my house was a complete tard. He bent my cooler brackets, plus i had to remove the front bumper.

Then from bmw, i had the car towed to carbconn but this time my mom mentioned a tow company which worked on our site. I rode with him to bmw, installed my front bumper, and he pulled out eight 2X4's and placed the car on the bed perfectly!

Its all about the driver!

Ravi

Where is a good place to rent an enclosed trailer?? Living in a condo doesn't make for owning a trailer very practical.

This thread is interesting.

I too am in a position in which I wish I had regular access to a trailer but I do not have a home situation that would allow it. HOA wouldn't allow me to store in on the road (too TPT for me personally anyway) and I do not have enough room to park it beside the house. The garage is only 21 by 20 so not enough room there.

My Dad however has gobs of room. He's in Darrington you remember, near that gas station some of us stopped at on the Ice Cream run. I wonder how many people would rent the trailer?

Thoughts?

I wonder if speedware will rent out some of the trailers that they sell or better yet rent out their own trailer?? I'll ask them some time when I'm back stateside myself and get an idea.
