Instructions on converting to paddle shift steering wheel
Hi guys,
I found this instruction online but it's for a 997. I wonder if it's the same for Panamera? It looks so easy. I've done steering wheel removal on other cars before, but never on something exotic-ish like the panamera.

It looks identical to panamera. I am about to do mine in a week or so when the wheel arrives, I just don't want to end up messing up the electronics of the car or worse, blowing my head off from the airbag.... eeek.

My friend moved from the standard multifunction steering wheel to this new shifter one on 2012 Cayenne, which is closer to Panamera than the 997. Dealer did the swap. I actually talked to the mechanic and he said it was a nightmare! It's mainly because you lose all the multifunction which has to be now programmed to work with the lever under the wiper lever to the right of the steering wheel. He said the programming alone took a lot longer than the swap of the wheels.
This is the only reason why I went with Techart paddles on my Pan Turbo which let me keep the multifunctions.
Definitely get an advice from a Porsche tech before u take apart anything.

I don't have multifunction buttons on my standard steering wheel (which seems like a blessing in disguise now). All my controls have to be done through the lever/stalk behind the steering wheel.
It looks like a straight swap to me if that's the case then.

That's the whole point of the conversion the guy did....

I really battled with this choice when trying to find a new Pan GTS; about 1/2 came with paddles and 1/2 with multifunction. I had the paddles in my 991 and it was really fun, well placed. However I am very glad I got the multifunction in the Pan GTS, simply for ease of using the phone, radio, and other features while driving. I use this car for daily driving, so not having to move my hands off wheel is nice. On a 991, however, different story.
Make sure you disconnect the battery, and let the car sit for 15 minutes before you start the removal. This will ensure the airbag won't blow your head off.

Yes, I know about all the necessary precautions needed to do this job. Like I said before, I am not new to removing steering wheels. Just not sure with these newer cars, if there's something else I need to watch out. Now I feel more confident to do this.
Wheel is coming in next week and I am rewrapping it in alcantara with a white line at the 12 o'clock position to match the exterior of the car. Will post photos when all said and done.
