So, what are your thoughts on the R8? I have a Panny GTS as my DD, but was looking to get a fun weekend toy have it narrowed to a 2009ish F430, 2012ish Lambo Gallardo, or 2013ish v10 r8. Love to get thoughts on the supercar aspects of the Audi.
R8 is awesome, best driving car I have ever driven, but depends on what you like and are looking for. The F430 is nice, but the R8 V10 will match performance and be more reliable and much cheaper to maintain. If it were me, and I had the cash and was thinking Ferrari, it would only be a 458. The Gallardo is also a nice car, same engine and chassis as the R8 V10 (R8 detuned a bit, but nothing an ECU upgrade can't partially fix). Have never driven the Gallardo so tough for me to compare, but as a daily driver having sat in one, I don't think it would measure up to the R8.
With a 2013+ R8 you also get the better tranny (according to some) wi the Stronic if you go for an automated manual. I have the RTronic in my R8 and once I had the TCU tuned I love it. It slams off shifts that put you back in teh seat when in Sport and pushed hard in either manual or auto, and is an easy driver around town when dialed back. The STronic is so smooth you lose some of the visceral feel, but gain a little in performance.
Good luck with the search.
Thanks. You can even see my winter driver in the background (328xi Sport Wagon).

Thanks for the feedback...I agree that the 458 is an amazing choice....but just so dang expensive at this point. My budget would be in the $150K neighborhood, and since this is a weekend car only, that's why I was thinking the three options I laid out. My buddy has an '11 r8 (v8), with a stasis tune that I have driven many times I agree that its simply an amazing handling car...no doubt. Its just to me, as my weekend toy, it does not have the same "eyeball appeal" as the 430 or the G. that said, I have not driven either of these two options yet, so that's the wildcard. I am a tad concerned that the 430 will be a maintenance nightmare, where as the Lambo, being an Audi product, should be much more dependable. Plus, it certainly has awesome curb appeal.
I guess next I need to t-drive a Lambo G, and then also try and drive the v10 R8...that should help make the decision.
Thanks!

Yeah agree about 458, would have one already myself if they weren't priced that high.
My R8 is a V8 also, with TCU and ECU tune from German Motoring. Eyball appeal is very subjective, but I can easily say I am on more people's FB page with this car in NJ that I would have imagined. Not 1 day goes by where I am not photographed or video'd when I am out in this car (SPyder + Color doesn't hurt). I love the look of the Gallardo too, but think you would be looking at an 07/08, maybe an 09 if you are lucky, compared to a new, or near new R8.
I am a big fan of buying cars used, but in near new condition. Bought my R8 from Audi Dealer with 2,900 miles on it and 6 months old and it was discounted almost $40k off sticker, but I try to keep my window no older than 3 years and no more miles than 25k, that way you keep out of trouble pretty much while getting good value (someone else has eaten the larger bite of depreciation). Going to an 07/08 gets you older electronics in the car as well, if that matters at all.
Good luck with the search, I love buying cars and shopping these 3 cars will be fun. Can't pick a bad choice off the list you are working from and it may come down to the exact cars you find, which will be best choice.

Congratulations on the 4S.

I'd love just for one of those just to be my daily driver,
