Protecting seat backs from kids?

Looking for advice:

My son is 3 and sits in a car seat behind the passenger side. I've scolded him enough now that he has gotten better, but he sometimes kicks the seat back and has left a fair number of scuffs. I'm looking for something to use to protect the seat back.

Most protectors are pretty cheap, come in black (I've got beige interior), and attach using a Velcro strap that doesn't really work with sport seats (as opposed to seats with removable headrests).

Anyone have an elegant solution?

You have 2 choices:

1) $12 peel of carpet protector, You can get that at home depot. It will come off easy when you need it vs my #2 solution http://www.homedepot.com/p/Roberts-2...word=70-130-12

2) 3m clear bra/protector vinyl and lay over the seat. You may have to use a steamer to take it off but its clear and you can wipe it off easy. You have to watch out what you are getting if you want to get that on ebay. I bought a whole bunch of fake 3m clear material.

It goes under 2 names:
glossy - Scothguard sgh6 film
matte - Venture Shield

Thanks for the link doktorek. I needed something to keep the dog hair off the carpet in the back of the B7. I think this will work out great. I would assume it's pretty easy to cut?

Duct tape.

Not for the seat. For the legs.

Doktorek, thanks for the ideas and generally for producing good content on this board. It is a lot sleepier than I would have expected so thanks for giving me something to read.

I hadn't thought about the carpet liner but I did think about contact paper. I was worried about stickiness. I also thought about using double sided tape to stick this on the back but didn't think that attachment method would withstand lots of kicking:

http://www.amazon.com/Duck-1100731-Non-Adhesive-12-Inch-20-Feet/dp/B002AS9NAI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408035814&sr=8-2&keywords=drawer+liner http://www.amazon.com/Duck-1100731-Non-Adhesive-12-Inch-20-Feet/dp/B002AS9NAI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408035814&sr=8-2&keywords=drawer+liner

So in short, I would certainly be interested in a templated solution.

I just bought a roll of the HD stuff and will also give it a go. I figure I'll need to clean the area first (suggestions on how to get out scuff marks appreciated), then apply with some kind of credit card / squeegee to keep the airbubbles out. I suspect it will be tough given the curvature of the seat, but as a result I probably won't attempt to cover the whole area.

hilar ious

But in all seriousness those cool ideas Dok. For that clear role, we've done that before on carpets where if we have big parties and needed to protect the carpet in heavy traffic areas, we lay those on.

If you have a black seat - I would do a black 3m wrap. For any other colors there - clear is the only choice.

This is how the glossy clear one from 3M would look. Its tough and good material. I dont have enough for the seat. I have to get some more. Let me know if anybody else is interested in it.

Regarding Home Depot stuff - I used that on a plexi and after about a week, I peel it off and it left a lot of glue. It maybe good for carpet - not so good on plexi.
I guess we will find out soon enough.

Mollamar - post some pictures of the Home depot stuff. BTW, make sure you clean the area with rubbin alcohol. It may not stick otherwise. For scuff marks - it all depends on the marks. Are they rubber shoes marks? If they are just marks on the plastic - try conditioner. If they are rubber shoes scuff marks - try Mr clean magic eraser - but test the area before hands. That stuff will scrubb anything off - from clear coat to stain off the leater or vinyl seats.

This is a great thread, and with two young boys (5 yrs, and 1.5 yrs) that will be riding in the back of my new Panny GTS, I am also looking for a solution!

I like the idea of the Black 3M wrap, but I would definitely be concerned with the adhesive residue after many months of use, especially in hot weather! Unfortunately with something like this, only time will really tell if there will be a problem with the adhesive residue....not something you can test over a weekend, let's say.

Any additional input would be appreciated, and Doktorek, if you decide to produce a product from a template, I would certainly be a buyer!

Thanks!

I say suck it up and enjoy your kids and don't worry about your car. Just clean off the back of the seat as needed. No residues later, no tacky add on covers etc. I've had many fine cars with 3 little kids, dogs etc. They always come out clean. Eventually the kids learn to respect the car.

Thanks Dok, I'll try the HD clear stuff, if not I'll continue with carsnob's advice, so far it has worked out.

Techart makes carbon fiber seatback coverings for the 911; they may have some available for the Panamera.

Exactly - my girls 5 and 8 love putting their feet on my seat backs beside some dirt there is never any damage - Long ago my dad told me cars are meant to be driven enjoy them and don't worry about the dirt.
