oil temp gauge fluctuating , radio turns off/resets

hi, have a 2011 Pan S with 21K miles…. car doing well but lately i noticed that the oil temp sometimes doesn't register or it will goto 180s and fluctuate up and down to 140s…. and at times it shows below 200F as normally it should….

Does the oil temp. sensor get affected by the oil level at all ? the oil pressure gauge seems to respond as normally btw… whether my oil level is at high or low …. btw i still go through a quart of M1 every 2k miles it seems…. that seems a lot…. my 996 Turbo never seems to burn oil…

ALSO, another issue, the radio will just turn off and reset/reboot all by itself w/o any rhythm or reason.. ? what gives ? loose wiring somewhere ?

please comment….like to have some info before i have to goto the service dept….

thanks in advance,

james R

Maybe you battery is dying or you may need a firmware update.

The radio issue looks like it's a "common" as it's happening very often on our cars. Supposedly a software flash to the car fixes the reset issue.

The oil gauge issue should be taken a look at when dropping off for flash. Highly doubt is a big deal.

Good Luck.

radio/pcm, etc

yeah, will drop car off for reflash at the dealer…
and will ask about the oil temp issue…it's probably a bad sensor….
i don't see any oil leak but it sure burns oil a lot, relatively speaking… i thought even that maybe it was leaking through a loose oil temp. sensor….if it can ….

i do go through a quart every 2K miles it seems…..

i got 20K on the car and thought it should be broken in by now…lol…..

thanks for your reply,

jim R

Yep had the reset issue that reset every 2-3 minutes. A reflash by the dealer should fix it.

if you're at a warm/hot climate, why don't you use a slightly thicker oil. Since you have a 996 I'm sure you know but a lot of us use a 50 weight oil on the 996t's

I had a kind off similar issue with my PCM... it would turn on but would not have any sound plus it would only be stuck on radio mode and would not let me choose CD or AUX or anything...

Leave the car off overnight and it fixes itself.. but its been to the dealership before for this same issue and they said an update would fix it... but it happened again last weekend.. so ive got an appointment set to go back to the dealership tuesday.. lets see what they do now..

I have a 2012 Pan 4S

Flashed the pcm in my 2010 ptt because it would randomly reboot. Got it back a few weeks ago and haven't noticed it since. Seems like it did the trick.

after multiple program updates....

well, my 2010 panamera finally got it's first software updates done since i we got the car 4 years ago... we had some 5 or 6 updates... took the dealer 'all day' to do it...
now the pcm is all good, so far... and the oil temp fluctuation is gone it seems as well... there was some upgrade on the software to do with it so...

otherwise, i'm at only 20K miles now and just got first set of new tires for it and the car is going strong; no issues...
just have to still put in q quart of oil every few thousand milles...
