I had the annual service and a brake fluid flush performed on my '11 P4S yesterday. Everything on the car was in good order, except that the tech noted that I would probably need new front tires in about 6000 miles. No rush, but when that time arrives I plan on putting fresh rubber on all four wheels. I'm running the Continental Pro Contacts right now and they have provided a very good ride for the 25600 miles that I've so far driven. However, I am wondering what tires others here have been using and their impressions. Thanks.

 

I have the stock summer time pirelli's and they are pretty good.. From what I've read here folks are partial the Michelin tires.. Living in the DMV the question seems to be should we go all season or summer if you do end up doing the Michelin tires..

 

Have 20" OEM Pirelli Pzero's on 2014 Panamera P2S and at 1 year maintenance @8k miles dealer said front tire treadwear indicators are below spec so need replacement, rears ok but will need replacement soon. They said wear is even across all tire tires.

8k miles seems real low, is that typical? It's my DD and I don't run it hard except for occasional spirited around town driving.

Will probably replace with Michelin Pilot Super Sport, read a lot of good things about them in porsche and other forums.

Dealer wants $2530 to replace all 4 including tax and all other costs so I will probably go the Tire Rack route. I'm new to porsche, any special issues to consider like reset of TPM when I have a local tire shop do the replacement?

 

Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Equal performance, better wear, better priced vs. the factory tires that come equipped with most newer Porsches.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Car came with it and it is brilliant. Has great amount of grip without sacrificing much all-weather ability. (no snow in hk!)

 

+1 on pss. Great grip for rediculous cornering, and quiet.

 

Have PSS on car now. Too bad they don't make much on 21"s

 

Folks with the pilot super sport are they all season or summer tires.. Living in the northeast I am thinking of going with an all season tire and the Michelin are at the top of my list.. Any one have any insight into how good they may or may not be?..

 

Michelin Pilot Super Sport are summer tires. If you want all-season, Michelin is A/S Plus N-Spec. Check Tire Rack for other options in your wheel size.

 

Mine are summer. Going to get a set of winters in a few months. Based on what I've read, AS are too much of a compromise and you're losing a lot of what you paid for.

 

Really?.. Hmmm. I have a little one on the way and this is my daily so I may have to get a set of winter wheels and tires.. Thing is.. In the DC area it doesn't snow enough to warrant getting a dedicated set of wheels and tires in my opinion.. It's tough..

 

I'm in Chicago so when it snows, it really snows. Having said that, the main streets that I would realistically be driving on would usually be plowed. Just the occasional side street that'd be a concern. I have 20" summers and will probably just buy 20" winters and swap back and forth on the same rims. Bigger tires would help in the winter, but I think dedicated winter tires in 20" should be ok (someone jump in if I'm way off ). Plus this way each set of tires is only being used 1/2 the year, so the summers last twice as long. And if I end up selling private party, maybe they'll buy the winters off me. Otherwise grab a few pence from ebay etc.

What I was told from my dealership is that AS are a big compromise all year round. Of course my ptt came with summers, so for me the choice was summer + AS or summer + winters. And he said the former was an unnecessary compromise.

Mind you, I've only ever owned AS before this car. Never had winters before, so my opinion here is an amalgam of other opinions. Maybe try driving cars with different setups if you can and report back

 

EmmHolla... Choice of tires will depend a lot on your situation.

With summer tires, definitely have to avoid driving if there is snow or ice on the ground. The tires will just slide. When the temperature is cold, tires will have less grip.

With A/S tires, it will be fine if there is a couple of inches of snow or slush. Wait for plows to clear heavier snow accumulation. The weight of the Panamera will help.

With winter tires, the tires will have better grip with all the types of precipitation. A serious consideration for the snow belt. For heavier accumulation, still limited by the ground clearance of the Panamera.

 

My solution is a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. If I had to wait for them to plow the streets I need to drive (and the Panamera could through) after a heaving snow fall I would be sitting at home for two days. I have AS on my 4S and I drive it hard and turn off the traction control and I have yet to be in any situation that the car could not do what I asked it to. The first winter I got my 4S I made the mistake of thinking it could get through some areas that had not been completely cleared, that was very expensive lesson.

 

Haven't had chance to replace the stock tires yet.
I have Michelin PSS came with the 20" factory option. I am 100% truly amazed the excellent balance between handling, ride and quietness from it....Maybe it's the car? lol
