Car Overheat. Coolant Lost. Problem Solved

As many have reported on here the inherent problem with the 4.8L TT.

I was the victim of this over the past weekend.

The plastic hoses under the inlet manifold are prone to breaking / deteriorating.

Driving along as normal, and all of a sudden, Red message regarding coolant level, and the coolant temp shot up.
Lost the A/C
And the engine temp actually increased too.

Stopped the car. Waiting for it to cool down. Refilled about 4L of water.
Continued driving for about 10 mins, then same scenario.

Steam pouring from the hood. Coolant message. Temp soaring.

Towed to mechanic. And yep, pipes / hoses broken.

While in there replaced thermostat and water pump. Water pump was just preventative. Thermostat was faulty also.

Interestingly while in there, spotted lots of carbon build up in the engine. (See pics)

Also cleaned this out while at it. They used some 3M solution that they sprayed into the inlet. I will find out the exact name.

model year and mileage??

Very interested in the intake carbon deposits. I have the 3.0TT in a 4S. I am wondering about the condition of my intake valves. Am going to try and use a USB horoscope to inspect a couple without removing the intake sometime in next few months. My current mileage is 55K.

Regards,

Chuck

After the walnut blasting, did the PT run better, did it have more power?
Did you get any pictures of the intakes after blasting?
