Wheel lock key missing, what to do

My wheel lock key is missing from kit in trunk of my PTT.
What are my options?

Need to remove wheel.

So 2 inquiries here:

1. How to remove wheel lock lugs from Panamera without key
2. Are sets of lugs I saw on ebay for about 60 bucks (20 lugs - black), decent enough to buy? Planning to go without locking lugs.

Thanks. This pisses me off when I get a car, and small thing like this is not known ahead of time.

My wheel lock disappeared once. Dealer has a kit with all lock keys and they used it to determine the key number. I had the dealer order two of them. Don’t know how to remove it otherwise.

I really tried not to go to the dealer for anything. Looks like I will be making a trip there Monday am.

Went to local Porsche dealer, who investigated closer.
After some time, came out with a print out.
Cannot do without key.

Apparently these locks are part of an advanced type of locks, they called them Thatchum locks.
In the memo he handed out, it says no dealers have any sets at all. If key is lost, must be re ordered by dealer from Germany, who in turn orders these to be made somewhere in the UK. Then the key is shipped. $180 plus multiple days. Its the delay that is killing me.
Dealer also told me that they could try remove it brute force.
I went to few local mechanic shops. Turns out the nut has a sleeve around it, preventing jamming of a socket ont the bolt to remove.

As of now, looks like dealer payment is a must. If you know of any way to remove, let me know. Dying to do it.
Here is a pic of the thatchum lock. If anyone knows where I can get replacement, would be awesome.

Lost Key 2013

I went to the dealer with my new McGard locks. They removed the stock locks and installed the new units.

My dealer stated the Thatcham locks do not come with master sets. So I was out of luck. I just today paid for a new one to be made. Hope it comes soon. Want those things off now.

When my key lock was lost a few years ago, I ordered a new one and they sent it with another stud too. Less than $20 dollars I believe.

Many large sophisticated tire shops have the "tool" that can be used to remove locked lug nuts. This tool is not generally shown to the public. You have to ask for it. It is basically a tool-steel socket which fits over the lug nut. This socket has teeth which grab onto the lug nut. The lug nut is useless thereafter as the teeth of the tool gouch the lug nut.

Ciaka,

I would go to https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/index.php?p=cart to submit an inquiry with your VIN, they will provide you the part# and cost. perhaps, your local dealer may match their price. Fletcher Joned Fremont Porsche matched their price when I lost my Fob.

Good luck, Let me go to my trunk to see I still have wheels lock nut, LOL ...

Last time I was perusing in my local AutoZone I could have sworn they sold something specifically to remove wheel locks. Might be worth a call or a visit to yours?

I looked up on the McGard website and found 28020 as the proper lock for a 2013, currently have a deposit on one. They have a registration form where you can order a spare key....

As an update to this topic, no tools out there can take the lug nuts off without ruining the wheel. Only thing can be done is torch them off, but you say bye bye to the wheels this way.
Only solution is to contact Porsche, give them your VIN, plus $200 bucks. They contact the company that makes the locks, which manufactures the replacement key unique to your car, and ship the key to you. Takes about 2 weeks.
Not even Porsche shop can remove these, as they do not have any master keys for Thatchum locks. ONLY vendor has a master, based on VIN of the car. Period.
Trust me, if you have Thatchum locks and need key, your only solution will be go to dealer. I tried multiple places without success.
This is a testament to the security of Thatchum locks, but at same time is a PITA if the key is lost or damaged.
Anyway, my replacement key arrived, and I was able to remove the bolts manually without any issues.

See below for more replies:

...This happens to be the Porsche wheel security tool, the Thachum locks. They are virtually unremovable without ruining the wheels, due to their design. The design includes special collars that cover the lug nuts, making it impossible to grab on them, to remove, since the collar spins when you use any tool to try remove.

...I am sure there are many tools to remove wheel locks, but not the Thachum wheel locks. These were selected by Porsche specifically due to them being so secure. Only a special tool, that you order using your car VIN, will do. yes, the tool is different for every car.

...I tried all sorts of places, made many calls, multiple visits to shops. Thatchum locks are not removable by any wheel bolt removal tools, except the original manufacturer key, which is unique to each car sold (VIN specific).

It was a while ago on a previous car but the garage welded something to the lock nut and it came out with that attached to it.
