My 13 year old said "Why not try it twice?". Sure enough, folding, unfolding and stopping it in the proper spot, folding in, unfolding and stopping in the proper spot. The third time you try it will stop on it's own a tiny bit past where you set it.
Was the issue finally solved this way? My car has the same issue and would like to hear your advice.
My drivers mirror in driving position was opening too much and the mirror adjustment wasnt unable to compensate the mispositioning. I tried the easy way suggested above but it didnt worked, so I decided to disassemble the mirror. The mirror itself, the upper and lower cowel need gentle but firm hands. The trickiest part its to remove the spring loaded compression washer. I made a small tool to press the spring; the tool has a window to allow the clip come out while spring is compressed. After remove the spring its no brain operation. My stopper pin was ok, but the aluminium stopper here the pin hit was forced and deformed, making the mirror going out of limits. Repaired it with cold aluminium welding, put it back together and voilá!
Problem solved!
That’s nice work thank you for sharing! I never could get the mirror quite right and lately (I guess from shortening with age) my seating position causes an issue exactly as you mention, where the adjustment can not compensate. I’ve been just living with it…

You can always stopping it by hand in the position you want simply holding it when is rotating. The mirror is obstacle sensitive so it will stop when it detects a detention. Cheers!
I brought the Panamera to school so my group could work on it with an Autel scanner. Then unfortunately it somehow caused the passenger side mirror to also over rotate. Not good as I can't reach out to both sides to stop the mirrors. If I find the hall effect memory somewhere I'll post here, but the car needs this and a driver upper control arm sadly....
