i hear a lot about cylinder scoring and oil consumption so i was wondering if someone is experiencing high oil consumption and it indeed is cylinder scoring, would the engine die fairly soon or could it go on for years?

 

could take a while if it s minor, usually also it will develop knocking sound to it.... Don t be getting upset about worst case , a little oil use not too big of a deal. Especially if some is leaking out.
