Timing chain replacement

Hello folks!
P4 with 58k miles. Stealership did the camshaft adjuster recall and told me the timing chain needs to be replaced. If I open the oil fill cap when engine is running its ruckus in there. Sounds like a dozen beer cans being thrown around. Any one done this on P4 thru dealer or DIY? What was the cost etc? I'm going DIY this if the costs are high which usually are...

On another note, would the camshaft issue have caused the timing chain problem? Or is it normal for the wear at this kind of mileage?

I haven not heard of the timing chain being replaced as common practice.

A timing chain vs. a belt is for sure noisier condition, and mind sound pretty noise with the cap off too. I think that's pretty normal. These are not quiet engines or transmissions.

Timing chains are generally not considered a "wear item" and only replaced when needed. Even for needed, that mileage is extremely low (they traditionally run 120K+). I'd consider a second opinion.
