Dashboard Squeaking DIY Disassembly Video?
Dashboard Squeaking DIY Disassembly Video?
My dashboard has an annoying squeaking sound coming from the driver side. Amazing that this PTT $100K+ car would do something like this in addition to the suspension noises. Does anyone know of a DIY video of taking the dash apart? That's probably the only way I'm going to find and fix this. I searched for hours last night but couldn't find anything. If I can't fix this I'll be moving on to the next car quickly. Fun car to drive but the PTT is a weird car with crapy build quarks as it gets older.
Side note: I was just in my friends 2002 BMW M5 and the car is solid. I have to admit I was shocked and also somewhat jealous that he has a car that doesn't have those noises.

I am experiencing a cracking noise which seems to be coming from inside the dash as best as I can tell. The noise is similar to cracking your knuckles.
Anyone have a similar experience?

That’s exactly what what I have. I’m unsure how to address it. I assume take the dash apart because it’s inside.
If I did not have any info on this, I would model my attempt at another Porsche, the Cayenne. PTT engine comes from the Cayenne. I bet their designers used many of the methods to put the trim together.
If you are interested, find my DIY in the cayenne forum, for taking apart the cayenne dash.
Basically the horizontal trim in front of dash is removed (long horizontal strips), it hides screws. Left vent also has a screw inside. Remove the key ring, and you get to separate dash from the lower dash. This exposes more screws behind the cluster, which are reached with thin long Torx, T30 I believe. I think there are 6 or 8 screws. Once they are out, the cluster comes out and gives access to the inside.
For creaking, I would, as starter, try to tighten any screws on outside first. If they loosen, you will have leather pieces rubbing when car goes over bumps.
That is my 2 cents worth. Good luck and document if you end up trying.
