I really want my 4S to have a little more growl to it. I've owned it for 6 years now and have worked towards making it unique to me in comparison to the other Panameras in my area but the exhaust note (or lack there of ) has always bugged me especially compared to 5.0 Mustangs, Maserati Ghilbis etc,etc . I don't want to spend $4K plus on an exhaust system on a 10 year old car, it just doesn't make good financial sense. The FVD mid pipe system that has been discussed seems like a possible solution but it's still around $1400 for basically stainless steel tubing. I wonder what the advantage of that is to replacing the main muffler/resonator with a magnaflow X-pipe or even just replacing it with 2 sections of straight through pipe for around $110.00 plus and hour or so labor charge from a good exhaust shop?
I went with removing the mufflers as many here on the forum suggested and really enjoy the change. A good shop can do it , I changed the tips at the same time. It is loud at start up and then settles, it revs nicely and you don’t really notice it at highway speeds unless you rev it on purpose.
Thanks for the reply, I hadn't thought of that. I was aware that some members have removed the resonator/muffler in the front of the exhaust system but I don't recall anyone else doing what you did. I would think it would be pretty loud.
You should search out my videos about the xpipe. I took out the resonator and installed the xpipe.
The note did change, but form what you are writing, you wont get what you want by doing this.
You are looking at Maserati note to compare to Panamera. To accomplish this, you better get ready to spend 4k.
IMO, if you want more growl, you should be looking at removing the secondary cats and making sure its done so the CEL does not come on. There are kits that do this, but for more than 200 bucks.
Once your secondary cats are out, and once the resonator is removed, you will hear a nice growl out of the Panamera. However on the down side, be prepared to hear more noise from inside cabin. These cars come with sound insulated body and glass, but making it louder will result in more noise inside too.
I myself looked at the change, but decided against it, since the Panamera is intended to be a refined machine, making it sound like a stang is not exactly the picture I have in mind.
Now, if I can make it sound like a Maserati (which has a Ferrari built engine and exhaust to match), well, that would be something.
Take care.
How much does something like that cost?
Can you compare sound to that of Maserati Gran Turismo S? Like one in here? Maybe you have a sound clip. Thanks very much. Maserati GTs sound

I was originally thinking of removing the resonator and adding an x-pipe. I met someone that had it and found it too loud inside the cabin. I went to get a custom exhaust made and found the sound to be louder but agreeable with just removing the mufflers. So I got new tips and have been enjoying it like that. It is not really loud, it is loud at start up for the first minute. At high rpms you can hear it also. It is not mild to wild at all if that helps.
Lgarcia, where did you get the tips from and do they just cut the mufflers off at the input and then the tips get attached to the pipe there or is there extra pipe needed?
The mufflers are attached to pipes routed towards a center location where the segments are clamped. All they did was loosen the clamps and take the mufflers off the hangers.
They they used their own pipe with custom bends to route the flow in the same OE route, used the OE hangers and added the aftermarket tips.
