DIY Oil Pressure Solenoid change

I got a big red "reduced Engine power" light the other week, after pulling the codes and doing some basic diags I determined it was the Oil Pressure Solenoid, swapped it out today.
Probably one of the easier things to change on this car. Going in I had hoped that the solenoid was upstream of the pump and I wouldn't need to drain the oil, turns out that is NOT the case and you will need to drain the oil.

the service manual calls for 2 special tools, however you can do it without them
000 721 927 50 which in no longer in production, and 000 721 975 30, < can be replaced with a deep 36mm socket

Once the lower plastics are off you can easily see the part in question

latch is a simple squeeze type - pair of needle nose pliers does the trick

Pulling the flange out proved to be the hardest part as it is firmly pressed against a couple of O-rings on the solenoid.
Once the flange is off, you loosen a bolt holding the solenoid in, the second special tool is used here, but the solenoid isn't that hard to remove, you could probably just use the needle nose pliers again and wiggle it out.

this tool could proabaly be replaced with a deep 36mm socket, doesn't seem to be any special reason for its shape (or cost)

assembly is reverse order, solenoid bolt is torqued to 40nm or 30ftlbs, flange bolts are torque to 4nm or 3ftlbs

don't forget the to refill it with oil!

Pressure was still reading a bit high at first (but lower than it was) but after a few minutes of driving it was running at it's normal pressure.

Thanks for the fantastic write up. This is something that I think I need to do now. Do you (or anyone) happen to have a part number for the Oil Pressure Solenoid? I can only seem to find the part number for the Oil Pressure Sender.

Many thanks!

Just search panamera oil pump solenoid . I changed mine but still no success . Have changed sensor , solenoid and flushed oil with additive . My oil did have some plastic in it due to chains trim plastic bit beeing broken . It was ok after oil change but as soon as I pressed sport chrono it did it again . Oil pump just shoout up the sky . On sport it not that bad but sport chrono i a matter of seconds . As soon as you pass 4000-5000 rpm oil pressure shoots up . I think there is a mechanical valve inside oil pump . So I suggest anyone to watch oil pressure for such behaviour and get a new oil pump for 1.7k $ and an indy shop to replace it

Are you sure it is 36mm socket? I am measuring the inlet hole on the sump and it is 39.xx, but 36mm socket is 40.xx INSIDE!
Could you please measure it for me?

It must be no bigger than 32mm metric socket. I have to get to the bottom of this drama tomorrow, because I took the sump cap apart but have no socket to take the nut out. A 36mm socket (36mm between flats) has an inside diameter of more than 42mm which is just impossible to push through the 39.80mm whole in the sump.
Please, if you still have the special socket and a caliper, could you please take some measurements?
1. Millimeters between flats
2. Millimeters between corners
3. Outside diameter
4. Inside depth (without 3/8 drive)
Thank you very much for helping me!
