So my car has been doing the dreaded front end creaking when cold.

And more recently, when going over speed bump, or full lock turning over a bump or exiting a driveway a quite pronounced knock sound.

Put it up on the hoist, and discovered the front lower control arm bushes (forward ones) were shot. Fluid leaking out from them.

Bought a fair from FCP Euro, and replaced them. I have attached a pic of the ones that were removed.
I noticed before i replaced them, at high speeds say 100MPH + the steering should shake a little and generally the car felt unstable when cornering at speed.

While i was under there, re torqued the sub frame, and other various bolts under there. Some of the sub frame bolts were actually pretty loose which was scary.

Also did regular oil & filter change, plus dropped the transmission oil and filter replaced that, and did a coolant flush.

Anyway, after replacing the front lower control arm bushes (forward ones) the car no long does that knock sound over speed bumps, and slow turns out of driveways.
The is zero steering wheel shudder at speed, and it feels generally alot more stable.

There is however still some very very light knocking when driving over crappy roads, which leads me to believe other bushes need replacing under there. Though im not sure which ones as all the other bushes appeared to be ok, and with virtually no play when tested.

There is still that creaking in cold weather other speed bumps, but its MUCH LESS pronounced now.

Anyway, thought you guys would like to know if you had similar symptoms

exactly same issue. Porsche has change my passenger side upper and lower, driver lower lower when it's still under warranty last year, but now driver side upper is bad and was told my rear shock mount was bad too. Fidelity extended covers it. Still waiting to get my car back.

Yes, you are right, only this one in lower control arm is hydromount, that's why it was leaking, I've missed that out from first time reading ....
But I see strange code 140245 on old hydromount ... OEM is 97034124502 and 97034124521 from year 2014; hmmmm how to understand this ?

What you have bought from FCP Euro ? OEM or aftermarket replacement ?

Does r&r of the bushing require any special tools? Does it require removal of the control arm?

 

Yes it does. But control arm removal is not too hard. But need to have car on a hoist. Couldnt do it on the ground.

Also need a press to press the bearing out & back in.

 

Yeah was reading up on how to install bushings without a press and came across this.
