Where To Tape?!
Where To Tape?!
I'm going to try AX this summer with the 996TT. Just for fun, and to learn the car better since I am still very new to it. I have 5 years AX experience with a variety of cars (944, 951, M3), but never a 996.
Basically, I don't want to scrape up the paint/car any more than necessary. I'm wondering, what specific spots do people put tape on their car to thwart off little rocks/pebbles/stone chips, and the ever possible cone strike.
Does anyone have any pictures of their 996's (any 996) with tape on it. I would like to see the locations you placed it. I'd like to try and avoid taping up the entire car ya know?

for autocross, you shouldn't have to tape anything since there is no car in front of you to throw rocks up at your car. Unless you want to tape your wheel wells (for the rocks you throw up going around the track, but these same rocks get thrown up when you drivce everyday!) and maybe the lower corners of your bumpers (for the cones).
I've only ever taped up my car for track events.
Good luck!

I've got to respectfully disagree wholeheartedly. Almost everyone tapes their cars for AX where I race. The amount of wheel turning can spray rocks and little pebbles down the side of the car easily! I just wanted to know from someone else who has my car where they found worked best.
In that case, then you are going to need tape on the front/lower of the rear fenders. That is the only place besides the standard places that would get any extra rocks.
Personally, i would suggest getting a clear bra on those areas (front and rear wheel wells, rear fenders, mirrors, etc...) since they will be getting this same damage on the street if you have sticky(ier) tires on your car.
