GMG, TIME ATTACK (this year)????
Are you guys going? I know the GT2 got banned, what about the cup car?
I may be going since they'll be funding part of the trip for me. I won the Atlanta region best time for cars qualified to go. Wifee likes Cali too.
I wanted to know if you have to have "race team" to participate because obviously I dont have one. So someone get one ready for me. (some parts woudlnt hurt either)

I will, if I'm able to go. 1:35.6 Hoosier R3S03 23rd heat cycle. I didnt win TTU at the event, a Z06 beat me by .054 on saturday and improved to 1:34.7 on sunday, I switched to MPSC and only had one good session (the break in session) on them on sunday and they werent ready yet, only could only manage a 1:36.4 (albeit on the second lap of brand new tires).
They also put a freaking 997 CUP CAR on slicks in out run group which is rediculous. He ran a 1:33 something. When I get someweight lost, suspension tweaks and R6's or maybe even slicks for the next event I'm going to kick some butt and take names, even the cup cars in TTU.
I need some ideas on how to get better turn in. I know perfection is not likely with me having AWD and the turbo suspension not being ideal, but I know it can be MUCH better than it is now. All I have done so far is rear sway on max stiff, coilovers and 2.5F/2.0R negative camber.

The Cup Car is banned because it was ( A Porsche) run in a pro series.
But they forgot to look at the purpose built time attack Skyline which had 700+ HP LOLOL
I would check with the event people to make sure they allow a 997 cup. Someone is sure to gripe about something like the engine being in the wrong place or the fact that it doesnt have turbo's LOLOL and only makes 420 hp but is faster than a car that makes 600 hp.. You know how it goes....
Either way it will need to run a DOT tire with a minimum tread rating of 100.
No slicks allowed.
If you are in the neighborhood please feel free to stop by. If we decide to run this year I will post a formal announcement.

i thought the reason the 996Cup you guys used was banned because it is a "factory racecar". by the same logic the 997cup will be banned too. however if you start with 997 GT3RS (street) and then cage it up... it will be legal.
even though technically the Skyline probably has more trick out parts than your 996Cup, the logic is that the shop perform'ed all the mods. they might even have more $$ than 996Cup but that's not the point. the point is factory race cars will be excluded from these Time Attack series...
i don't believe the GT2 is banned. if it is, what's the reason? it makes no sense what so ever...

While I agree that the Cup car maybe a factory race car . It is still built off of a production chassis and shares well over 90% of its parts with the street GT3. Which I think we can both agree is not the case with cars it competed against in its class. In my opinion this is completely unfair.
The rules should be based on the levels of modifications and not the fact that the car was built by the factory.
Why should a Porsche Cup car be banned from competition because the factory has competition department and delivers cars to its clients. Its not like we showed up with a GT3 RSR and decided to run. The cup car also has a VIN # and is built off of a production car chassis. No different what any other car running in the series.
And if we were to use the time attack organizers logic than the cup car should also be banned from SCCA competition since it is built by the factory and other cars which it competes against are built independently should be legal?
The R33 -R34 Skyline is not even legally sold in the USA. While I agree its a very cool car with a ton of potential ( we have 2 in the shop now) it should also be judged by the same rules.
The rules state that any vehicle that was run in a professional series are NOT allowed. It doesnt matter if it is a Jetta (034 motorsports) or a Porsche. They are treated equally.
I am all about "fair" competition but if we are going to judge cars than we should judge them equally.
We can sit here and argue our points back and forth. But until the organizers
judge cars equally it wont make a difference.
The GT2 is legal this year and it may run in the street production RWD class like it did last year. It will depend our schedule if we can make the event or not.
They wont allow the Cup cars to run because they will likely win, and we all know the goal of the time attacks are for the Skylines to win (and maybe an evo, NSX or STi here and there). Even the 700 and 800 hp skylines etc will still have a hard time beating a 450 hp cup car.
The funny thing is that the guy that was there for the magazine never actually came and said anything to me, I was looking at a Scion Race car which competes at the time attack too, with a local racer, and the guy I was talking to mentioned it to the magazine guy (that I was driving the Porsche turbo) and then he said something, now that I think about it it didnt seem as if I was originally in the plans to be invited. It's all good though, 4400 miles is a long trip for a one day event. Dunno if I'll be going.

Thanks. I found it through NASA.
My car should run in TTS according to the race weight and power to the wheels.
The 4 classification events are gone already. Too bad.
Anyway I'm planning on running in October if I get the TT license approved.

i agress with you. cup cars should be legal as they are suppose to be street cup cars modified by factory. since the class is UNLIMITED... it really should not exclude the cup cars.
over all i'm glad that Time Attacks are getting lots of sponsors and publicity and good public awareness. lot of w2w racers cry about how it isn't racing... they are simply missing the point. TA are getting SUPPORT. w2w isn't. TA typically represent the latest and greatest street cars! and the consumers can totally relate to it. definite brings by the old race on sunday sell on monday mentality! i think TA's are GREAT!
