Powdercoating??

This might be a stupid question, but here it goes. Once something is powdercoated, can it be "un-coated"?

I called a local reputable powdercoater (Used by the company I work for) and they quoted me $150 to sandblast and powdercoat all four wheels. They said that matte, semi gloss or gloss black would be the same price. I will post pics when they get done.

The $150 includes: sandblast and powdercoat, doe NOT include mount/dismount of tires. Keep in mind that my price is due to business relations.

Seven S Powder Coating in Riverside, CA. If interested, let me know. I can refer you through my company. I am planning on dismounting the wheels this weekend and dropping them off beginning of next week.

There is a shop in memphis that does great work.

I called and was quoted $50 per wheel for sandblast and powder coat any color.

Are you guys concerned about the wheels being weakened by the heat? There seems to be mixed opinions out there on this.

A powdercoating oven is roughly 400 degrees, your brakes get much much hotter than this. I do not think that the heat would weaken the wheels. Remember that you can harden metals by heating them and then submersing them in used motor oil.

Yeah, if OEM can powdercoat wheels, I am confident that re-doing the process will not harm the wheels, especially a mere 400 degrees.
Also, many types of metals are heat treated for strength and durability, such as tooling for machinery.
