F&%$$ wheel acid on rims

Detail guy sprayed my front wheel with wheel acid and stained it. I am so pissed that he would do that!!!!! Anyone with some help on fixing this problem. I don't want to have to buy a new rim. I also don't want him to buy me a new wheel. He doesn't have a lot of money and it is crude to make him pay for the rim.

Now the wheel looks like there are black water spots and drips everywhere. I thing the wheel is clear coated. I tried some rim polish and nothing happened. The rag didn't turn black which confirms that it is a clear coated wheel

Looks a lot worse in person

Try to use the "Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish". Use some new 100% Terry cloth, apply the powder onto the cloth and clean the wheel. This should work.

NO! Those wheels are clearcoated painted wheels. You don't use mag and aluminum polish on painted wheels. Try using some wax on them instead. Basically your clearcoat got etched by the wheel cleaner. You just need to try and polish the etched clearcoat with some wax. I would suggest a slightly abrasive wax rather than a 100% pure carnuba wax. Your basic over the counter (discount store) Zaino is a safe bet. It comes in a light blue bottle and can be found at Target or other auto parts stores. It has slight abrasives in it but is extremely gentle on the paint. It's completely different from the more expensive Zaino formulations that come in multiple bottles/tubs that you find in "boutique" type of auto accessory stores. Another nice product is Mequire's Scratch-X in the blue toothpaste type tube. It's meant for scratches and is even more abrasive but that is what you might need. Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish is meant for bare metal surfaces and waaaay too abrasive for paint.

Good luck

Was out there this morning working on the rim. Tried some wax first, nothing happenend. Next tried some abrasive compound, again nothing happened. Finally I tried 2000 grit sand paper and quickly burnt through the clear and color in a small area.

At this point does anyone know where I can get a good deal on one front AMG rim. This sucks

First my NAV disc gets stolen then this rim fiasco occurs

Bummer.... 1000 grit sandpaper, yikes!!! Too bad, it's a moot point now but I get the feeling that Scratch-X might have done the trick. I was able to repair the same thing once with Zymol and a lot of elbow grease. There was a thread a while back where someone posted curbed wheel repair instructions. It's quite possible that a little factory paint and clear coat will still do the trick. One quick pass of color to blend the area that you burned through and a lightly fogged double-triple coat of clear. A coat of clear would have been the next step that I would have advised. It's almost like a wet layer that would have covered and completely hidden all of the etched areas.

Then again, you have to consider a factory wheel is probably in the $400-$1000 range depending on where you get it depends on what your time is worth to you. Considering the damage is done and now you are in a throw away/trade in situation on the wheel, you might want to try the blend and clear method. I'll see if I can find the instructions for you.

Had the wheel painted today with crappy results. I guess I am going to have to get a new rim. Pretty frusturated right now at the situation. Anyone know where to go to get a good deal on a AMG double spoke rim?

well there is a bit of an easy fix for future reference, re spray wheel with acid hurry and scrub rinse real good, then buff with compound then buff with polish. ive done it on cars like vettes when i used to detail at the dealer i used to work at, worked like a charm for me.
